The Type 9 shuttlecraft is a compact, high-speed Starfleet auxiliary craft intended for routine personnel transport, reconnaissance, short-range exploration and independent missions.
Introduced during the 2370s, the Type 9 combines a relatively small airframe with warp capability, defensive shielding and limited tactical systems. Its size and manoeuvrability make it particularly useful for operations where a larger runabout or specialist craft would be unnecessary.
USS Elysium maintains a dedicated flight of Type 9 shuttlecraft for routine shipboard operations, away-team transport and rapid deployment assignments.
