The Captain's Yacht is a specialised auxiliary vessel assigned to the USS Elysium for command-level transport, diplomatic missions and independent operations where the use of a standard shuttlecraft would be unsuitable.
Larger and more capable than a conventional shuttlecraft, the yacht is equipped with its own warp propulsion, defensive systems and mission-support facilities. It is designed to operate independently of its parent vessel for limited periods while transporting senior officers, diplomatic personnel and mission specialists.
Although traditionally associated with the commanding officer, deployment of the yacht is determined by mission requirements. It may therefore be assigned to diplomatic delegations, senior command personnel or specialist teams when authorised by the Elysium's command staff.
The Captain's Yacht occupies a role between a conventional shuttlecraft and a small independent starship. Its primary function is the safe and efficient transport of senior personnel over distances or under circumstances where a standard shuttle would be inappropriate.
The vessel is particularly suited to diplomatic and ceremonial duties, allowing representatives of the USS Elysium and the United Federation of Planets to arrive independently of the main starship.
Its warp capability also permits the yacht to undertake independent transport, liaison and support missions without requiring Elysium to divert from its primary assignment.
A transporter and tractor emitter further increase the vessel's flexibility during planetary, orbital and rendezvous operations.
