AWARDS & RECOGNITION
USS ELYSIUM • NCC-89000 • PERSONNEL RECOGNITION DATABASE

Awards recognise the achievements, creativity, participation and contributions of USS Elysium players and characters.

Some awards are unique to the USS Elysium, while others are official Obsidian Fleet awards available across the Fleet.

ELYSIUM-CENTRIC AWARDS
USS ELYSIUM EXCLUSIVE RECOGNITION
JOINT POST CHALLENGE CHAMPION

Each year, the USS Elysium may run a Joint Post Challenge over the course of one month.

  • A participant must complete at least one one-on-one Joint Post with each participating player.
  • Large group or mass Joint Posts do not count toward the challenge.
  • The challenge must be completed within the designated one-month period.
MISSION STARS

Players who participate with a player-character in more than 50% of a mission are entitled to receive a Bronze Mission Star.

On completion of a player's fifth qualifying mission aboard the USS Elysium, a Silver Mission Star is worn in place of five Bronze Mission Stars.

A Deployment Commendation Ribbon may also be authorised where applicable.

After earning five Silver Mission Stars, they are replaced by a Gold Mission Star.

SILVER BOOK

The Silver Book replaces the former Golden Scroll Award.

It is awarded monthly to the writer or writers responsible for a post that demonstrates strong quality, characterisation and storytelling.

This award is unique to the USS Elysium and should not be confused with Obsidian Fleet's Library Excellence Ribbon.

Qualifying posts should:

  • Demonstrate strong writing and character development.
  • Contain minimal spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Present the characters and story to their best advantage.
  • Not necessarily advance the main mission plot.
Minimum Length:
Solo Post: 500 words
Joint Post: 1,000 words
COLLABORATIVE POST EXCELLENCE
Awarded to the writers of exceptional Joint Posts whose collaboration, character interaction and storytelling deserve special recognition.
STAR OF HOPE
The Star of Hope is awarded for combat action only and is presented posthumously to a person killed in action while serving the armed forces of the United Federation of Planets.
OUTSTANDING ANTAGONIST
Awarded to a player who creates an exceptionally well-crafted antagonist who contributes convincingly and significantly to a simulation plotline over a series of posts.
ELYSIUM UNIT CITATION
Awarded to a group of players who demonstrate outstanding cohesiveness and ability in Joint Posting, interact effectively with one another, contribute strongly to the collective storyline and create an enjoyable posting thread for others to read.
ELYSIUM SILVER CROSS

The Elysium Silver Cross is the highest-level award bestowed upon a USS Elysium player.

Recipients demonstrate qualities represented across many other awards: furthering plots in ways that encourage participation, writing believable and engaging characters, supporting other players and consistently contributing to the quality of the shared story.

The recipient may be a protagonist, antagonist, dreamer or storyteller; what matters is the quality and impact of their contribution.

This award is intentionally rare. A suitable recipient may not be identified during every award cycle. It is based upon content and context rather than simply posting frequency.

COMMAND COMMENDATION
Awarded at the discretion of the Commanding Officer, typically in recognition of a player's significant out-of-character contribution to the administration, support or continued success of the simulation.
PLOT DEVELOPMENT CITATION
Awarded for developing the current plotline in an original and unexpected but believable direction. The recipient introduces complications or creative twists that improve the shared story without derailing the plot or turning it into a personal hero campaign.
SERVICE COMMENDATION AWARD
Awarded to a crew member whose writing consistently encourages other players to join in, contribute and build upon the post. This award recognises a strong team player who writes for the benefit of group interaction.
HEART OF THE TIGER AWARD
Awarded to players who put considerable effort into creating exciting, action-packed combat posts that remain believable while delivering memorable, edge-of-your-seat storytelling.
BRIDGE OFFICER CERTIFICATION
Awarded in recognition of successful completion of Bridge Officer Certification. Players who complete the certification should advise the Command Staff so the award can be recorded.
OBSIDIAN FLEET AWARDS
FLEET-WIDE RECOGNITION
CAPTAIN'S PERSONAL MERIT
Awarded to a crew member whom the Commanding Officer feels is deserving of special recognition.
CREATIVITY AWARD
Awarded to players who introduce an outstanding idea during a mission. This may occur during battle, diplomacy, a medical crisis, shore leave or any other storyline. There are no rigid criteria, but sample posts are required.
CREW'S CHOICE AWARD
Voted on by the simulation's crew and awarded to the player whom their fellow writers believe excelled during the relevant award period.
DEFOREST KELLEY HUMOR AWARD
Recognises players who bring memorable humour and light-heartedness to a story, even when their characters are facing difficult or dangerous circumstances. The award also serves as a tribute to actor DeForest Kelley.
GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL
Awarded for exceptional performance of duties and recognises an individual who demonstrates commitment and dependability both in-character and out-of-character.
LIBRARY EXCELLENCE RIBBON
Awarded for outstanding writing style that is clear, precise and easy to follow while allowing the story to flow naturally between writers. Proper spelling and grammar are also important considerations.
MERITORIOUS NEWCOMER AWARD
Awarded to a newcomer who quickly becomes an active member of the simulation and makes a strong effort to establish their character as a valuable addition to the crew.
NON-PLAYER CHARACTER AWARD
Awarded for the development of engaging and detailed Non-Player Characters. NPCs help create a believable world around the primary characters, and this award recognises a writer whose supporting characters add realism and dimension to the simulation.
OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AWARD
Awarded to a player who consistently finds meaningful ways to assist the simulation's Command Staff and performs excellent support work. This is an out-of-character award recognising contributions that often require a player's personal time beyond normal gameplay.
PROFESSIONAL MERIT
Awarded to a writer who develops their character with considerable skill, creating a believable, engaging character who is enjoyable for others to interact with.
PURPLE HEART

Awarded to personnel injured in the line of duty where the injury is considered significant enough to warrant formal recognition.

It may also be awarded to Starfleet personnel who are captured and held as prisoners of war for an extended period.

RECRUITMENT AWARD

Awarded in recognition of successful player recruitment.

To qualify, a player must recruit a new member who remains with the simulation for a minimum of six months.

This is an out-of-character award and is not available to the simulation's Commanding Officer.

ROSE AWARD
Awarded to players whose characters make significant and well-written romantic developments. Romance can add realism and depth to character development and can require considerable skill to portray convincingly.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG DIVERSITY RIBBON

Awarded for the successful and thoughtful portrayal of a non-human character aboard a simulation.

The award recognises writers who do an exemplary job of developing characters from different species and cultures, creating believable personalities rather than relying solely upon species stereotypes.

It may also recognise players whose writing or out-of-character contributions positively support diversity and inclusion within Obsidian Fleet and its simulations.

ZEFRAM COCHRANE WRITING AWARD
Awarded to writers who demonstrate unique, creative and well-considered writing during a mission. Qualifying material may include discovery, first contact, combat, romance, personal challenges or other significant storytelling moments.
Award Reference:
Awards recognise quality, participation, teamwork and contribution. They are not intended simply as measures of posting frequency. Eligibility and award decisions may depend upon the criteria of the USS Elysium, Obsidian Fleet and the relevant award cycle.
