Character Spotlight

Lieutenant Commander Ephraim Parish

Brief Interview with Selena Harris, on board reporter

SH: So, what does your job entail on the USS Elysium?

EP: *sighs* Much more than I expected, let me tell you. As Commandant, I oversee the studies and professional development of the cadets assigned to the Elysium Academy. If I'm not at my desk dealing with paperwork, I'm hosting meetings, evaluating instructors, meeting with the ships CO, and ensuring the curriculum is being taught correctly.

I'm trying to make it more hands-on by covering for the Engineering staff if I have the time, but mostly it's administrative.

SH:How do you unwind after a tough duty shift?

EP: After a tough one? I head straight home, prepare a quick dinner, grab a beer and watch something easy on the screen.

SH:Have you any pointers for those who want to do what you do?

EP: Be. Organised. Engineers are more hands-on leading a few of us to grow comfortable surrounded by clutter. Does. Not. Work. I spent the first week constantly scrambling for files or meetings or evaluations; it wasn't good.

SH:Do you have any funny stories about your time on the Elysium?

EP: Plenty, but my favourite includes me, a doctor and a turboshaft lacking gravity. Let's just say that I witnessed, for the first time, a man hit the whistle register.

SH:What about hobbies? Any strange hobbies?

EP: I like to tinker, upgrading my tech, creating devices that enable the inner slob, anything that keeps my mind and hands busy.
