USS Elysium | The Price of Home β Mission Update & Crew Opportunities
Posted on Fri Oct 30th, 2026 @ 12:56pm by Commodore Phoenix Lalor-Richardson
Hi everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to provide some clarity around our current mission, The Price of Home, following feedback that the storyline has become a little complicated and information-heavy.
First and foremost, I want everyone to enjoy writing and feel that their characters have a meaningful part to play in the story. You shouldn't need to read pages of background information or understand every political faction to get involved.
So, what is the mission about?
After nearly a year stranded in the Circinus Galaxy, Elysium has finally discovered a possible way home.
Unfortunately, we cannot accomplish it alone.
Four civilizations possess different pieces of the technology needed to construct the Erebus Gate. Our immediate goal is to convince them to cooperate, despite their differences and competing interests.
That's where we are now.
Where are we in the story?
Elysium has arrived at Zyphera Prime, a vast neutral diplomatic and commercial station.
The opening reception is underway, and the first formal summit discussions will follow.
For now, we're concentrating on **Act I β The Price of Unity**. The larger mission will unfold in stages, and I'll introduce new developments and challenges as we progress rather than expecting everyone to absorb the entire storyline at once.
What can your characters do?
Plenty!
Whether your character is involved in Command, Engineering, Science, Medical, Security, the Marines, or another area of the ship, there are opportunities to participate.
You might:
- Explore Zyphera Prime, visit its markets, restaurants and other attractions.
- Meet alien delegates, station residents or merchants.
- Participate in diplomatic, scientific or security preparations.
- Investigate rumours or unusual activity.
- Explore how your character feels about the possibility of finally going home.
- Simply enjoy some character development and interactions with other crew members.
Not every post needs to advance the central plot. Character relationships, personal stories and everyday experiences are just as important to Elysium.
You're welcome to create minor NPCs and develop your own encounters. Just check with Command before introducing major incidents, resolving central mysteries or making significant decisions involving the alien governments.
What happens next?
Our next major milestone will be the opening of the formal summit, where the different civilisations begin discussing whether they can work together.
From there, the story will develop through diplomatic encounters, scientific challenges, unexpected complications and, of course, the occasional surprise.
Existing posts can continue, and there will still be opportunities for backposting.
I'll aim to provide clearer direction as each stage begins, including opportunities for different departments to become involved.
One final thing...
This mission is intended to be a significant chapter in Elysium's journey, but it should be something we create together, not a story where everyone is simply following a predetermined script.
Your characters' choices, discoveries and interactions should help shape what happens.
If you're unsure where your character fits or would like a particular storyline or writing opportunity, please reach out. I'm more than happy to help develop something.
The goal is simple: get Elysium home.
How we get there is where the adventure lies.
Thank you all for your continued contributions to Elysium. I'm looking forward to seeing where we take the story together.
