A New Road Taken

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Captain's Ready Room, USS Elysium
830 words - 1.7 OF Standard Post Measure

Siora had been on the transport that had recently dropped off a slew of new staff. She had met another El Aurian on board called Aerin Olovaris and they had chatted quite pleasantly about their old home and the birth of their new one. It used to be meeting El Aurians was rare, but not now. With a focal point now set in the form of Kaitos more and more people flocked to it.

She was now the Chief Intelligence Officer on board the USS Elysium, and for one she was quite happy with that. The USS Madeira, the medical vessel she had been in command of, was nice enough but nothing near the comforts that she saw on board this vessel.

With all new postings came the meeting of a new Captain. Siora fixed her hair a little before pressing the chime for entry from the corridor.

"Come!" came the call from the ready room. Phoenix was finishing up on paperwork before she could go on mat leave.

Walking in Siora smiled softly and stood at attention, she was still getting used to that part even after nearly 15 years of a commission. "Lieutenant Siora Carberos Captain. Elysium's new Intelligence Chief." she said with an accent akin to that of South Africa on Earth even though she had never been there.

"Ah yes, Welcome to the Elysium Lieutenant. At ease." The captain stood and held out a hand to shake the lieutenant's human style.

Siora looked at the extended hand and took it with a firm squeeze and a shake. "Humans do like to touch a lot, do they not?" she said as they released hands. "I have noticed this a lot over the years I have spent with them."

Phoenix smiled at that. "Yes indeed. Please have a seat."

"Thank you, Captain." Siora said sitting down. She noticed the pregnancy as she sat but did not want to mention it just yet on their first meeting. There was a glow that was nice to see around those expecting.

"So Lieutenant, I will be frank, you are joining this crew as our .. I believe 4th Chief of Intelligence in the past 6 months. As to why? I wish I knew. Maybe there was not enough intrigue for them. But we have a fully functional Intelligence system, there is also an intelligence blister beneath the main bridge, manned by your department. They are a very good team from prior reports." Phoenix picked up a PADD and handed it over.

"Thank you ma'am." Siora replied taking the PADD from her. "I have already had a look at some of the reports from the department and am impressed by what I have seen." she said as she placed the PADD down on her legs. "The blister I am interested in, it is a new environment to me, so close to the bridge but am excited to see it and use it to our advantage."

"That's a good start. I have high hopes for your department Lieutenant. It has never seemed to be utilized to its fullest potential and I will need your assistance with that."

"Anything I can do Captain. I have a network of people outside of Starfleet that supply me with needed information when I request it. The perks of my previous role before joining Starfleet..." Siora commented.

"Good. My door is always open." Phoenix said with a smile. "And my executive officer's door is also always open as well"

"Yes, Captain." Siora replied. "I have some time with Commander Taylor later today, as well as a medical lined up too." she said with a hint of unhappiness at the last part. She did not like being poked and prodded in those ways, always felt too clinical.

"Ah yes, Medical. Um word of ... no more of a heads up. Our CMO? He is a Gorn. Lovely man, but a bit of a shock to new crew."

Siora's eyes widened in surprise. Her face also did not hide that before a grin appeared. "Really?" she asked rhetorically. "Wow, that is amazing. I find Gorn almost as fascinating as Caitains..." She admitted.

"We have a few of those as well, and... well, humans call them horses, but we call him S'hib, he is a Sequus. You will find we have a very unique and varied crew."

"You are not kidding..." Siora said as she tried to picture S'hib. "Cats, horses, lizards... and here was me thinking I was unique here." she laughed inwardly to herself.

"Oh we are a very varied crew." Phoenix said. "I am sure you will enjoy your time here."

"I have no doubt Captain." Siora replied positively. "I will be sure to mix with all many of the crew once I am settled."

"Then I shall let you go get settled in." Phoenix said. "And again, Welcome to the Elysium."

"Thank you Captain." Siora stood. "It has been nice to meet you." she turned and left to find some trouble.
