Checking In

Lovejoy sat in office looking over the recent crew transfers both the recent arrivals and departures. Right now he was looking over the file on a recent transfer one Sergeant Leilani Rahl. It was very impressive. The Sergeant would make a fine addition to both the Elysium crew and the Marines.

Arriving at Lovejoy’s office door Leilani straightened her uniform before pressing the chime.

Hearing the chime sound, he sat straighter and called out "Come!" Then sat back to see who came through the doors.

Leilani entered and walked across to Lovejoy’s desk, she offered a salute even though he wasn’t a marine. “Sergeant Leilani Rahl reporting for duty Sir.” She handed over the PADD containing her transfer orders.

Lovejoy took the PaDD and set it aside. "Have a seat Sergeant." He offered. As she sat he continued. "Welcome to the Elysium. I hope you didn't encounter any difficulties in getting here."

“Thank you Sir” Lani took a seat. “No problems at all Sir.”

"Good to know," Garrett replied, "I see you are a combat medic in addition to your other specialty. How did you ever come to combine the two?"

Lani smiled. “Well I did two years at the Academy during which I found a love of Archaeology and Anthropology. Between my marine duties, when the marines aren’t needed in the field I spend time doing my other career. It keeps me busy.”

"I would guess it does." Lovejoy commented. "Have you had any interesting finds on your digs?"

“Yes Sir, A few” Lani nodded. “The tomb of an ancient warrior that legend seemed to think never existed, an ancient treasure trove. I’ve gathered quite a few trinkets over the years, obviously not pieces that would be considered valuable.”

"I should hope not Sergeant. That would be a big no-no." Lovejoy said lightly but it was clear he was serious.

“It most definitely is Sir” Leilani nodded. “I know the rules Sir.”

"I'm sure you do Sergent. Just remember to remember the rules. Being sent to a Penal Colony isn't worth taking the risk on stealing an artifact."

“Indeed not Sir” Leilani looked at Lovejoy curiously. “I have never stolen anything in my life Sir.”

"Of course not Sergeant. I sincerely apologize if I suggested differently. I meant no offense." Lovejoy replied. Trying to get the conversation back on safer ground, he asked. "Tell me a little about yourself Sergeant."

Lani nodded and offered a smile. “No apology necessary Sir, as for me there’s not a lot to tell really. I started my career at Starfleet Academy before deciding to take up a career in the marine corps. I’ve found my home with the Corps.”

"I see. What about the Corps appeals to you Sergeant?" He asked for he was genuinely interested in hearing her answer.

“That’s a good question Commander” Lani paused. “Members of the Corps always seemed to have each other’s backs, like a true family. They go through hell and back again, yet they come back stronger. It appealed to me.”

Garrett nodded, "I can see where that would be appealing. To know you are never alone no matter what the situation was."

Leilani nodded. “It’s something that I ... need” She paused wondering if Lovejoy had read her file. “I need to be amongst people I know I can trust, and rely on.”

"then I would say, welcome to the Elysium Sergeant . Where you are a member of the family and you can count on the people here."

“Thank you Sir, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Elysium hence why I accepted the posting here.” Lani smiled warmly. “I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone.”

"We are glad and fortunate to have you Sergeant. I know Captain Carrington will want to meet you as well."

Leilani nodded. “Then I will make a point of meeting her Sir.” She offered a smile.

"I would say that is an excellent idea Sergeant." Lovejoy replied drolly.

Lani grinned. “It did sound a bit silly didn’t it? I will be checking in with the doctor and Counsellor today as well as per regulations.”

"Just a tad." Lovejoy agreed.

Lani nodded before pausing to massage her temples, her bond with George was so new it was taking some time to get used to. “With your ... permission Sir I’ll continue with my ... err duties?”

'"Permission granted Sergeant and once again welcome to the Elysium." Lovejoy replied smoothly.

“Thank you Sir” Lani stood, before heading for the door. She was definitely going to have to mention her new bond to the doctor.

Lovejoy nodded and watched her head for the door, he was already back at work, reviewing transfers and maintenance requests from various departments.
