Nenaa let out a slight sigh as she waited for the line of the crew to file out of the shuttle. Trust her to be at the rear again. Picking up her bag and deployment orders the Orion tossed her black hair back as she waited for the line to leave. Something big was happening in the ship's shuttle bay as two of the runabouts were being modified as she made her way towards the lift. It was time to find her commanding officer.
In Marine Country, Naxea was going over the inventory list of the Detachment in her office. As a standard requirement, a Marine Detachment had to be ready for any and all situations from hostage rescue to a full scale planetary war which made the Detachment's logistics a pain in the ass. Luckily anything the Marines needed could be replicated right on the Marine Deck from the Fabricators. It was one of the good things about being aboard an Elysium Class Vessel. The door chime broke her from her train of thought as she looked up at her door. "Enter."
Stepping through the door the gunnery sergeant saluted before standing to attention. " Gunnery Sargent Nenaa reporting for duty ma'am. " The Orion said calmly.
Naxea stood and returned the salute. "At ease, Gunnery Sergeant. Have a seat," she gestured to the nearby chair opposite of her desk.
"Thank you Ma'am. It feels good to have a ship underfoot again." She said politely as she took the seat.
"Where were you stationed previously? Naxea asked as she tapped a few commands on her console to verify Nenaa's transfer orders.
"Xebaunope on peacekeeping duty for four years, two years before that I was on the USS Saint Andrews." The Orion replied calmly.
"Four years is a long time to be on a peace keeping mission. How did it go?" Naxea questioned, looking back at the young woman.
"As well as it could have gone. Religious cultists are always hard to control especially when they have a jungle to run into. Still, the Xebaunope security service can handle it from here, " the orion replied.
"I see. Well let's hope they can contain the situation," Naxea said, knowing that often too many times, planets such as Xebaunope could fall back into despair with the Marines being needed once more. "I see you're being assigned as a scout sniper for the detachment. We have a Corporal Tonelly who is currently the scout sniper for First Platoon but he is scheduled to lat move to Security. So I will be placing you in with First Platoon, which is also our Special Forces Platoon. Do you have any questions so far?"
"No ma'am sounds simple enough." The orion replied.
"Spend the day getting settled in and then check in with the Armory to get your gear assigned. Report for PT tomorrow at 0600 with the rest of the detachment. Come on, I'll show you to the barracks," Naxea said, standing.
"Lead on." the Orion said standing up and following her commander.
Walking out of the barracks, Naxea looked at the younger woman. "Have you seen any combat?"
" Multiple engagements on Xebaunope and multiple boarding actions on the Sanit Andrew. " Replied the orion. " Would you like to see the after-action details? "
Naxea chuckled, waving her hand dismissively. "No, that's not necessary. And try to relax some, Gunnery Sergeant Nenaa. You're tighter than a PFC fresh from School of Infantry. Never be afraid to speak your thoughts here--we're not the Borg."
The orion was about to reply before she breathed out and smiled slightly. " Sorry boss both dad and my moms were in the Corp and it rubs off on me and my siblings. "
Naxea smiled. "I can understand. But you'll find that I am one of the few officers that lead from the front in a fight and I will never ask anyone to do something that I will not do myself, personally. I am also always available if anyone needs me, as is my XO, Chief Warrant Officer Man'darr. You will probably meet him tomorrow. Can't miss him--bald and huge."
"I'll keep that in mind. How many marines do we have onboard?" The Orion enquired.
"We have One-hundred and twenty-eight Marines aboard the Elysium," Naxea answered as the two came to a door marked barracks.
"Ah feels good to be home." The orion replied as they stepped into the familiar layout of the barracks. Like all federation starship's it bore the same layout.
"If you need anything, just ask me or my XO, Gunny," Naxea stated.
" I will boss. Just to inform you I'm one of the Orions that is allergic to the pheromone suppressant. It's why I wear the suppressant suit under my uniform." The Orion explained indicating to what appeared to be a black jumpsuit pocking out of her uniform collar.
"I see. If you want, I can see about getting you assigned to your own quarters," Naxea said, eyeing the black suit. Normally Staff NCOs were assigned to a Staff NCO Quarters within the barracks with one other Marine.
"That would be appreciated. If we have any marines immune to the pheromones I'd happy to share." The green woman replied.
"Ok," Naxea began as she thought about the living assignments. "I'll set you in SNCO Room 301. It's currently empty for the moment. Come with me and I can show you where it's at."
"Lead the way." The orion response came as she gripped her duffle bag tight on her shoulder.
Naxea made her way down the narrow corridor with doors leading to barracks rooms on each side. There was more privacy for the barracks than on smaller ships but the rooms were still tiny with shared heads with consisted of only a sonic shower, toilet and sink. She soon came to a door labeled SNCO 301. Opening it, was a larger room with two bunks and a far door leading to a private lavatory for the room and a holographic port display representing the exterior in real time. "Here we are, Gunny."
The Orion stepped inside and let out a relieved sigh as she looked around the room. " Ah the standard marine quarters reminds me of boot camp." She said fondly placing her bag down on the bottom bunk.
Naxea grinned at the new arrival. "If there is anything you need, just ask. And welcome aboard, Gunnery Sergeant Neena."
"I will. Thank you for the welcome boss. " the Orion said offering her hand with a warm smile.
Naxea nodded and shook the woman's hand. "You're welcome." Turning, Naxea made her way back towards her office.
"I'll see you around." the Orion replied with a warm smile. When she was sure the boss was out of the way she sat down pulling off her uniform and suppression suit. She was after a warm shower.
