Lieutenant Colonel Azhul Naxea read the message about her Academy Class reunion in her quarters. She was unsure she would be able to make it. She thought back to the events that led to her joining the Starfleet Marines...
====================
The single yellow sun in the blue skies shone with no interference from clouds as a young Naxea dressed in red shorts and a grey t-shirt and her hair tied back into a braid entered her home on New France, coming in from a run. "Naxea" called a woman's voice from within the house.
"Yeah, mom," Naxea answered as she followed the voice to the kitchen to find her mother tending to a wound on her younger half-cardassian brother Dajeem's knee. "What happened to him?" she asked as she looked at her brother in disgust.
She turned to looked at Naxea, letting out a frustrated sigh at her daughter's hatred for Dajeem. "Naxea, he got into a fight with kids at school. You got a message from Starfleet Academy," she grinned at her daughter, whose face lit up.
"Starfleet?" she repeated excitedly, ignoring her brother's ordeal of being involved in another fight at school as she turned to rush into her room. Naxea's room was had a few clothes tossed haphazardly on the floor with holo-posters of music group called The Alphas that consisted of five members--Two human men, an Andorian woman, a Bolian woman, and a Trill man. Rushing to the terminal at her desk, she activated the terminal. "Computer, play unread message!"

Naxea excitedly replied with her confirmation before jumping out of her seat, screaming and throwing her hands into the air.
"Is everything ok, Naxea?" her mother asked, rushing to her door.
"I got accepted into the Starfleet Marine Academy!" she screamed, running to hug her mother tightly before rushing past her.
"Thats great, but where are you going?" her mother asked with a large grin.
"To tell my friends!" Naxea exclaimed, not stopping as she rushed out of the house.

(The following day)
The warm air rushing by felt great to Naxea as she sped her hover bike past 150 KPH across the grassy field with a hover jeep full of excited and screaming teenagers to her right and another hover bike to her left that was currently ridden by an Andorian teenage male. Ahead was Gora's Ridge--a popular spot for teenagers from the colony to hang out that overlooked the ocean. A group had already gathered as she approached fast.
She brought the bike to a stop and hopped off as her friends disembarked their vehicles as well. "I still can't believe you got in, Nax!" exclaimed a red-haired human girl, rushing over to wrap her arm across Naxea's back.
Naxea smiled brightly. "Amanda! I know! Did you hear from the Academy yet?"
"Sure did, got accepted into the Flight Division!" she exclaimed.
"Wow, so someday you'll be piloting a starship. Wonder if you'll ever get to pilot a Sovereign Class."
"A girl can dream!" Amanda sighed excitedly. as the two girls were joined by the teenage Andorian who had ridden the other hover bike.
"So Arev, what about you?" Naxea smiled at the boy she had begun dating a month ago.
"I decided to join Starfleet Security instead," he admitted.
"Security?" Naxea questioned. "I thought you were going to join the Marine Division?"
"I was but then I decided that Security might be a better option, offering more career options," Arev replied.
"What about us?" Naxea wondered, stopping to look at him.
"Don't worry, you're still my girl, Nax," he smiled. "We can get together on liberty."
Naxea smiled, laying her head on his shoulder. "We better," she chuckled.
"So, are you up for a swim, Nax?" Arev asked.
"You bet your handsome blue ass I am," she said as she unzipped her leather riding jacket, revealing just a blue bikini underneath.
"I'll catch up with you guys later," Amanda said. "Try to behave yourselves," she grinned slyly.
"No promises," Naxea replied with a mischievous grin as she led Arv down the path that led to the beach below the ridge.
