Olivia had been thinking about learning a skill from that was once taught from one generation to the next many centuries ago and was rarely taught now if at all. It was mainly taught from mother to daughter in the human race, and rarely seen done by another race. She had once thought about learning the skill of knowing how to crochet back when she was at Starfleet Academy as one of her projects in the class, but someone else had ended up doing that project so Olivia chose another to do for the class. Olivia decided it was now time to take the time to learn how to crochet for herself to help as an alternative for relaxing while off duty.

Olivia had looked through some of the historical information in the ship databanks to see what she would need in order to teach herself how to crochet over time and came across several step by step videos. She saved the videos to one of the PADDs that she had handy and the continued searching for other reference material that might be of some help at some point. As she continued her research, Olivia found several different styles on the different hooks that would be used in crocheting depending on the project that was being worked on right then. She used the replicator to have a couple different sizes made for her to try out in the beginning. After deciding on the hook sizes that she wanted to try out first, Olivia then went through the yarn options to choose from to use for her practice to learn to crochet. After picking out some yarn, and having it appear before her on the replicator, Olivia gathered her items and went over to the couch to sit and start watching the video’s step by step to learn the different basic stitches.

After a couple of hours Olivia had the basic stitches down and was now working on another stitch. While she had been working on learning the basic stitches, Olivia had did little coasters as samples to keep on hand for reference later on if she needed to look back as a refresher at some point down the road. She also made sure to save the video’s as well and even found a few other videos to use as reference when she got ready to start working on a few projects in her free time. The stitch that Olivia was working on now was the trinity stitch. It made her think of a basket weave look and feel and it was the perfect stitch to use on some of the bigger projects such as blankets.

Small blankets would be good for all the new babies being born onboard the Elysium. After she did a test run of making a blanket out of the trinity stitch, Olivia thought she would start making a few in her free time and offer them to the couples onboard ship. Then she could also make a few a little bigger for any older siblings as well that the babies may end up having as well. Olivia started thinking of colors to use for the little baby blankets and decided on pink and blue obviously, but also doing up some in yellow, white, and green. That way there would be other color options to choose from just in case the parents or sibling that did the picking out of the color didn't want to go with one of the traditional colors for the new addition to the family.

Olivia put aside her work for the night so that she could go ahead and get some sleep. She didn't want to get to much off her normal schedule even though she had the morning off and went in later in the day tomorrow. She wanted to check out some more of the shops to see if there was by chance there was a yarn shop to check out rather than using the replicator on producing all of the yarn that she would need for making the blankets. She made a list of the types of yarn and other items she would need.

Finishing up everything she needed to for the night, Olivia headed on off to bed to get some sleep and then she would be heading out like normal to get things done before her duty shift.

To be continued....
