After Napoleon left her, Mrera faded in and out of consciousness. Her head throbbed, causing her fits of pain that she had difficulty enduring. It seemed when she was in the most pain, blood oozed from her nose and ear.
If only she knew where she was and who she was. The pain was enough to frighten the ensign, but not knowing things, even personal things was downright scary.
Mrera observed a doctor working amongst the survivors. He seemed to know what he was doing. Now, the man stood by her cot.
Elijah was still helping as best he could within the Marine country medical bay but he knew he'd soon have to head to the main sickbay. He noticed an Ensign observing him and having noted her before figured now was a better time than any to see if she needed any medical care. "How are you doing?" He asked, a simply question but if the patient could answer it ticked a lot of boxes.
The man seemed nice, so Mrera made the decision to trust him even though she could not place his scent or his face. “My head feelss ass if it will ssplit into two,” she confessed. “My nosse continues to bleed, and ssometimess a it comess out of my earr. I cannot ssit up becausse of pain and dizziness. And, I don’t know anybody. For that matterr, I don’t know who or where I am.”
He nodded suspecting concussion at the very minimal, "Well I am Doctor Carmichael but you can just call me Eli, I'm the assistant medical officer onboard the USS Elysium which is the ship we are on." He explained, "I'm just going to run some preliminary tests is that ok with you? And then we can look at working out who you are." He smiled grabbing the tricorder of his belt and detecting the small light.
Mrera frowned, feeling timid. She was normally curious, but at the moment, her curiosity wanted to know who she herself was.
"I'm going to move this torch from left to right, up and down an move it in and out please just follow with your eyes for me." Elijah began in the center and watched her pupils carefully as he firstly moved the torch to her right, then left, Up and then down before going in closer and further away"
The good doctor got little to no reaction to the light. Mrera’s cat eyes were completely dilated.
He nodded, "Ok, lets try covering one of your eyes, I'll leave that for you to pick" He explained all part of the examination, determining her sense of awareness and control. "Ok and as before..." He repeated the process for both eyes as his tricorder beeped letting him know that he had a match for the test he had been running in the background.
The left eye read Ted better than the left. Mrera’s left nostril began to ooze blood.
Eli quickly produced a cut of cloth which he had been using as make shift bandages whenever the replicator failed, “Here hold this to your nose” he explained. “You have a pretty bad concussion, I don’t want you moving anywhere anytime soon. Unfortunately because of that I can’t administer any pain relief.”
Checking the Tricorder, “Good news you’re not an imposter Ensign Mrera Sr’au. Does that ring a bell?” He questioned checking and watching her.
Mrera accessed the deep regions of her brain. She could smell the jungles of Cate, almost see her family. The man who had brought her here was not there. So, he was not from there. It must be her home.
Then, she remembered her graduation. They announced her as Mrera Sr’au. A light seemed to go on in the Catina’s eyes, as she held the material to her nose.
“Yess,” Sr’au remembered, “that doess ssound right. That’s the name they called when I graduated. How did I get hurt? What happened?”
“We’ll that’s big mystery, plenty of speculation but I haven’t heard any word from the command team or bridge. For now however I’ll keep patching people up and until anyone says any different it’ll be on board this ship.” He smiled, “Let me get you a drink and some food, what would you like? Omega 3 mag help increase recovery” he offered.
“Ssomething to drrink purrhaps,” Mrera confessed. She, like all aboard, most likely have not had a drop of hydration in a while. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to handle solid food at the moment. “Yess, that would be nicse. Thank you furt yourr kindnesss.”
He nodded and smiled before taking a step away in the direction of the resource pile they had gathered, in it where some rations and bottles of water. The less they used the ships systems the better. Picking up two bottles of water he walked back over to Mrera “Here just some water, we’re being a little conservative until we know exactly what the situation is. Drink it slowly” he added taking a sip for his own water. “How is your head feeling now? Anything else come to mind?”
“The scent of the man that came with me,” Mrera acknowledged. “It seemed familiar. Yet, I cannot place him in my memory. His scent was so comforting to me, but I do not know who he is or why his scent caused me to feel that way. I feel like I should be in the jungle’s of Cate.”
Eli wasn’t aware of the man that had brought her in, “Well pull on that memory and I am sure his name and familiarity will come back.” Looking around, “I feel like we are in a jungle, just one made of metal, sparks and chaos” Elijah chuckled trying to keep the conversation simple. “Besides your memory is there anything else you can tell me? Any aches or pains?”
Mrera reached out to touch his arm, an indication of her gratitude. “Thank you! Only my head, Doctorr Carrmichael. You’rre ssure you can do nothing for it?”
Elijah smiled and watched as she placed her hand on his arm, "I wish I could be of more help but unfortunately concussion requires rest and drinking plenty of water. We in the professional capacity call it 'brain rest' however I'm acutely aware that things are likely to be a little busier before they quieten down, I can give you some very low yield pain killers to help with the headaches, aches and pains but for your memory and senses, I can only prescribe time and rest" He explained.
“Thank you doctorr,” Mrera said appreciatively, “I am grrateful for yourr help. Ssoon I will be back to climbing again.” Climbing. There was a memory. She seemed to think she loved to climb.
