Naxea, dressed in her Marine Duty Uniform and sporting the rank of First Lieutenant stepped off the Danube Class Runabout and looked around at the bay. It was busy with shuttles landing and taking off as flight crews swarmed around shuttles that landed to off load equipment and refuel the shuttles. Her trip has been long as she has come straight from Starfleet Marine Raider Indoc. Now, she was a member of the elite Marine Raiders. The traing has been tough but she had made it.
A Marine Sergeant approached Naxea. The woman appeared to be well built with black hair worn up and wearing a scowl on her face. 'Great, another damn lieutenant,' the woman thought bitterly. "You must be Lieutenant Azhul," the woman said.
"I am," she said after a moment. "Who might you be?"
"Sergeant Luxa Gami. If you'll follow me, I'll escort you to the CO," Gami said with a gesture towards the bay exit.
Naxea followed Gami out into the corridor, sensing the friction from her. "Is there a problem, sergeantl?" Naxea asked.
Gami stopped and turned to face Naxea. "No ma'am. I enjoy making sure new officers don't get lost instead of getting some time on the holosuite. Much more productive." Gami turned and kept walking.
Naxea was taken back. No NCO had talked to her with such carelessness and disregard. It didn't sit well with her. She stepped up her walking pace to catch up with Gami. "Corporal! Stop! I don't know what your problem is and why you are being blatantly disrespectful, but I assure you that I haven't earned it. Now I expect your attitude to change right this minute. Understood?"
Gami looked at the woman for a moment. 'Typical lieutenant,' she thought. "Of course, ma'am. Understood. We should continue? Major Anders isn't a patient man."
"Fine," Naxea sighed. "Lead the way."
Several quiet minutes later, the two Marines arrived at Major Anders' Office. Naxea and Luxa were met by a stocky, bald human man. "Thank you, Sergeant Gami. Dismissed."
"Aye, Sir," Gami replied before leaving the office.
"First Lieutenant Azhul Naxea reporting for duty," said as she came to attention.
"At ease and welcome to Deep Space Fifteen, lieutenant," Anders said as crossed his arms. I understand you just graduated from Marine Raiders Indoc.
"Yes Sir."
"Congratulations. I didn't recall any real life combat experience in your record, correct?" Anders asked.
"No Sir but I .no stranger to violence," Naxea replied.
"I know about you living in the Bajoran Occupation, lieutenant. Tough business. I'm assigning you as head of Second Platoon. Your Platoon Sergeant is Sergeant Gami."
"Sir, I object to Sergeant Gami. She is borderline disrespectful and doesn't appear to be very disciplined," Naxea replied.
"Sergeant Gami may be rough around the edges but you'll be hard pressed to find a better NCO. She's staying."
"Aye Sir.
"You're dismissed, lieutenant."
"Aye, Sir.". Naxea turned and left the office. She wasn't sure about this assignment.
-----later that evening -----
Naxea entered the Nexus, a popular bar on DS 15. Immediately upon sitting at the bar, she. Would hear a familiar voice yell above the noise of the crowd. "Attention everyone! Our new eltee has arrived!" Gami yelled before laughing before downing a large sip of beer.
Naxea turned to look at her. "That is enough, Sergeant!"
Gami gave a mock salute before downing another long sip of beer.
Naxea was now fuming. The woman, her own platoon sergeant was mocking her in front of the other Marines. She knew if she didn't do something, she would lose respect of her Marines. She downed the rest of her beer and stood, marching over to Gami's table.
"Whatcha need there el-tee. I'm busy drink--" Gami never finished her sentence as Naxea landed a quick right hook, sending Gami tumbling back out of her seat.
Naxea tossed the table as the other Marines kept out of the way as the stood. "I've had enough out of you, Sergeant!"
Gami kept to her feet and delivered a right hook of her own that sent Naxea stumbling back. "Let's dance," Gami said, smiling as she advanced towards Naxea.
-----
Naxea sat on the bunk in the brig with Gami in the cell across the from her. Both women sported bruises, cuts, and blood stains on their uniforms. Naxea sighed, this was a hell of a beginning of her posting at Deep Space Fifteen.
"You're a hell of a fighter, el-tee," Gami said as she sat up on her bunk.
"What the hell is your problem with me?" Naxea asked, looking at Gami.
Gami sighed. "It's not you personally, more of having yet another lieutenant join our platoon. All you officers seem to care about is furthering your career and less about the men and women under you. We haven't had the best record with lieutenants staying with us. Most seem to want more prestigious assignments."
"That's not me, Sergeant Gami. I listen to those under me. All I ask is to give me a chance to prove it. I'm not like those other lieutenants."
Gami nodded slowly. "Fair enough. Sorry I put you through a table."
Naxea chuckled. "Yeah, I'm going to feel that in the morning...and sorry for tossing you over the bar."
"Don't apologize to me. Apologize to Mack. I think I landed on and broke his favorite Buddha statue...with my ass."
Naxea now laughed as Gami joined in. Just then the doors to the brig opened as Major Anders stormed in. "Well I'm glad to see you two enjoying yourselves! I expected better from you, lieutenant. You're confined to your quarters for two weeks. And Sergeant Gami, I've had about enough of you. Consider yourself reduced in rank and restricted to the barracks for two weeks. You're lucky I'm not dismissing you from the Corps. Fortunately for you, there is a situation brewing with Orion Pirates taking over a civilian stat cruiser that will require the Raiders Platoon.
"Aye Sir," the two replied.
Major Anders entered the command for the brig forcefields to drop as the two Marines followed after Major Anders.
"I think we may get along just yet," Gami said, smiling as she walked next to Naxea.
