T'lol Holv checked the Starfleet news, as she did every week, but the status of the Elysium remained unchanged, "Missing, presumed lost."

She had asked her friends and family with Starfleet connections to see if there was more information of the fate of the ship, and her husband N'vok, but there was not. Not that Starfleet always released all the information they had when a ship had gone missing, but in this case, they had. Probably because the information was so scanty, she thought cynically.

As had become her want, she spent the next hour tending the garden, neither she nor N'vok were that interested in gardening but now she found it a welcome distraction, a task that she actually had some control over.

Not that she had objected to N'vok rejoining Starfleet, he welcomed the challenges and, well, she welcomed the peace. Not that he was hard to live with, the rough edges of their relationship had worn off years ago, but some time apart but still in contact would do them both some good. So was the plan, but reality had other plans. Since they had been engaged, decades ago, until the Elysium vanished, they had never gone more than three days without talking to each other. Even meaningless chatter about colleagues and experiments would be better than this silence.

She brought in a flowering Jewelflower to serve as the centerpiece on the table having already taken out the Andorian Flowering Fern that held that post for the last week. She did not follow the Terran custom of killing flowers to enjoy them, preferring living plants and the hope they represented.

Some might call it superstition and unfit for a logical Vulcan, T'lol saw it as part of the tenacity of life and a reminder not to give up on N'vok. Starfleet ships had returned from strange situations before, why not the Elysium?

She adjusted the facing of the Jewelflower and then returned to her studies. Perhaps next week would bring some news, but somehow, she knew she would again be disappointed.
