Lunara stood outside Rosalyn's office, a bowl of assorted nuts in her hand. 'Time to meet the boss', she thought to herself. She drew herself up, pressing the door chime. "Commander Parish? Are you in there?"
It took Rosalyn a few moments to respond. The first couple of weeks of a Counselor's new assignment were always the busiest. A ship the size of the Elysium made it significantly harder. Before Lunara had arrived, the Chief had been sat cross-legged on the small couch in her office catching up on the current caseload. Placing her tablet on the table, Rosalyn made her way to the door.
"I certainly am, Ensign Hol," Rosalyn said warmly once the doors had disappeared into the wall, "Please, come in" Rosalyn offered, gesturing into the room, "feel free to sit on the sofa, the desk chairs get very uncomfortable," she suggested warmly, as she made space for Lunara to enter.
Lunara smiled as she walked through the door. "It's good to meet you, ma'am." She held up the bowl. "Want some? According to one of the doctors, it's a tradition on the ship."
Rosalyn chuckled with amusement, "Well, seeing as it's a tradition...," she said before taking a couple from the bowl and popping them into her mouth, "definitely not the most unpleasant way to commemorate my new adventure on the Elysium" she commented as she made her way towards the replicator.
"Could I get you something to drink?" She offered as she gave Lunara time to get in and get settled.
"Could I have a Tarkelian Tea, please? I might have helped myself to a handful already... and I might be thirsty because of that." Lunara wrinkled. "Hope you don't mind."
Rosalyn smiled, "Not at all, I'm actually pleased to see you," she said as she fetched Lunara her drink, "I've been meaning to set up a meeting to introduce myself, but settling in has been taking longer than I expected" she apologised before turning to grab herself a drink.
"Well, we're together now." Lunara smiled as she took the drink. "I have to say, I'm glad you're here, especially after our last chief left so suddenly. I didn't even get to meet her."
Rosalyn didn't bother to hide her shock, she felt much more comfortable being open around people of her own discipline, "That's... rapid" she commented as she returned to the couches with her own drink, "well, I can promise you that I'm intent on staying for a good while, seems pointless getting used to a place this big without staying"
"Glad to hear that. I have a feeling we'll need all hands on deck for the next few weeks." Lunara took a sip of her tea. "So, what did you do before you got here?" She leaned forward, genuinely interested.
"I served as Assistant Chief aboard the USS Martin. Mostly patrolling, sometimes coming into conflict" Rosalyn shared, "as a result I mostly treated PTSD, Trauma and Anxiety related disorder. Looking forwards to having a bit more variety," she continued, "what about you?"
"Well," Lunara smiled, "I don't have too much real experience as a counselor, but I've done some other stuff in the past. My last host, Perim, was an actress... and before that, I was a Starfleet engineer. The USS Legacy..." Her eyes had a far-away look in them.
"I imagine living through so many experiences have shaped you into an incredible counsellor" Rosalyn suggested before taking a sip of her drink, "How are you finding it?" she asked curiously. Joined Trill was few within the fleet, it was rare that Rosalyn had the chance to actually have a genuine conversation with one.
"Oh, It's an incredible gift! I'm incredibly thankful I'm able to experience it." Lunara grinned. "It's... I don't know how to describe it yet. Every day feels like a new experience." She looked around. "The ship feels new, but at the same time... there's a strange familiarity to it."
"I can get the familiarity, Excelsiors are buckets compared to the Elysium class, yet all Starfleet ships have a similar aesthetic to them" Rosalyn noted, "That said, I never imagined serving on a ship this large, I'm thankful to have a talented team to call on for support"
Lunara shook her head. "You're right, this /is/ incredible. Our own Academy onboard! My- I mean, Jalen's old ship had a crew of 280, and two counselors. Feels like it would be easy to get lost in the crowd here..."
"I imagine I'm going to have rely on a map for some time," Rosalyn joked as she placed her cup down on the table and turned to face Lunara more openly, "Now, how is the crew? Anything, in particular, I should expect?"
"Mmm..." Lunara leaned back, stroking her chin. "Well, I haven't been here much longer than you, but...well, you heard about the Romulan incident, so we'll have to do check ups and trauma sessions. Overall, though, they seem like a great crew. Kind of reminds me of my old one, actually."
Rosalyn nodded, "Any particular members of the crew you think we look into? The files are fine, but a personal touch always provides better insight"
Lunara nodded. "Mm. Well, we're obviously going to have to keep an eye on the six that the Romulans captured... I'd look in on the Marines and security, too. Combat stress reactions are no joke."
"Certainly, I'll no doubt encounter a few during our upcoming counselling reviews" Rosalyn accepted, "I can't say I've ever been assigned to a vessel with so much work from the get-go, I'm pretty eager to get stuck in"
