Species: El Aurian

SPECIES INFORMATION

The El Aurian species is a matriarchal society. The people are ruled by a High Priestess, typically the oldest of the religious order. While the leadership is mostly made of women, this does not infer that the male of the species is considered less-than. Far from it. The male population is indeed integral to the society itself. Most of the teachers, scientists and even the military, were male. However, tradition and legends showed that the species was born from a single woman, Strellatta El Auria, nearly one hundred millennia ago (nearly ten million years by Earth calendars).

Modern day historians and scholars have devoted much time to the subject of the El Aurian people, and while a single date of origin has yet to be agreed upon, most do agree that the El Aurians are one of the Old Races, with the Organians and Originators possibly being the only two species that are older. As the surviving El Aurians have been quiet with much detail on the matter, much of their history, to the rest of the galaxy, shall remain a topic of conjecture.

What has been shared is that they were a warp-capable people, when the dinosaurs still ruled the Earth. Throughout the eons, they have traveled the galaxy, and possibly beyond it, and have studied the young races that they have encountered. For the last fifty thousand years alone, they have watched, quietly, as the various powers of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants have developed.

This was done either with probes, survey ships or personnel, surgically altered to blend in, on the ground observing. It has always been the highest Tennant of their studies, that they are not to interfere with developing civilizations. Only when a species has proven that they are capable of understanding the galaxy around them, do they show themselves.

The El Aurian were, and still are, a peaceful people. However, if they are pushed to extremes, they will react violently and without remorse. If they feel that their family is in danger, they will stop at nothing to ensure their safety, no matter the price. This being said, it should also be noted that the El Aurian people are an honorable race. When one gives their word on a matter, that word will never be broken. This promise is generational. If one El Aurian vows something, she or he, and every generation of progeny thereafter, will uphold the vow. The vow itself is considered sacrosanct.

It has been learned that the El Aurians search throughout their long lives for, "the other half of their soul". It is believed that, throughout all of creation, there is only one true match for each member of the species. Eons ago, it would have been a fellow El Aurian. However, in recent centuries, moreso following the near-complete genocide by the Borg, that more and more of these, "other halves", are being found in other species. Regardless of the shell, once an El Aurian finds their other half, a strong bond is formed quickly. Afterwards, the El Aurian will suffer if forcefully separated from their mate. Should such a separation occur, only through a powerful religious ceremony, overseen by the High Priestess, herself, can free the El Aurian from their torment.

It has been witnessed, by outworlders, that certain El Aurians possess various, "abilities". These abilities are specific to the original tribes that each member originates from. Some can see the energies that move through a person and have some control over those energies. Others can feel the universe around them, sensing the various flows of life and matter through it. Still others are sensitive to space time, and are able to determine if time has been altered in some way. There are even a few, less than one percent of the species, that possess a power that allows them to sense all the above. They are referred to as the Holy Defenders.

Average lifespan: (by Earth calendar)

Female: approximately 6000 years

Male: approximately 4000 years

Average height: 4' 10" to 6' 11"

Eye color range: variations of blue, green and gold

Hair color range: typically brunette, with some blondes and ravens. Redheads are exceedingly rare.

Some El Aurian Terms:

1. rasstala: bi-annual sleep cycle.

2. haltora: binding connection

3. Dratoa: ceremonial bedroll used during rasstala. It contains four thin wires that pop up at the corners and when activated, act as a suspension field to hold the cocoon.

4. Thallida: Goddess of Knowledge and Strength

5. Ruleeta: Goddess of Protection and Rest

6. Deltrata: command spoken to activate the Dratoa and begin the rasstala.

7. Vertalko: Bonding ceremony between two El Aurians (or an Outlander, if it is shown that they possess an El Aurian soul). A third El Aurian must stand as witness for the ceremony to be valid in El Aurian law. If an Outlander is to be bonded, he/she will then receive full rights, privileges and protections provided by El Aurin law as they would become an El Aurian citizen.
