Personality & Traits

General Overview He's an intense character, bubbling with a youthful exuberance and enthusiasm that probably should have subsided towards the end of his teenage years. He's always working on new projects, craves big crowds and social engagements, and would often be the first in the gym and the last to leave of his classmates. He brings this work ethic to everything he does, and while others may edge him out in talent or experience, it'll take a lot to beat him in effort.

Character Background

Personal History Mark Cross was the son of two Starfleet Officers, one an Engineer, now a Captain, and one a Doctor, now a First Officer. His childhood was on Starfleet vessels, his upbringing was Starfleet, his future was probably Starfleet. While growing up he enjoyed taking things apart, finding out how they worked, and learning to put them back together again was something that he did, instead he followed his mother into the field of Medicine, falling in love with the science of it, and spurred on by the thought of helping others. Nobody was surprised that he chose to join the Academy.

Mark had other interests, of course. Sports, keeping himself in shape, flying and piloting, and perhaps most interestingly, practicing on the shooting range. By the time his final year in the Academy rolled around, he was lifting heavier, running further, and shooting better than a lot of the Security Cadets coming through. It was that that put him firmly on the radar of Major Mariana Ortega.

Ortega had been tasked with putting together her own unit for various classified operations under the umbrella of Starfleet Intelligence. A majority of these missions still remain highly classified. She wanted Cross. He agreed to consider her proposal, provided that he could take her to dinner first. Reluctantly, she agreed, and a short time later, after he had graduated Starfleet Medical, ready for his first posting, he instead turned tail and joined the Marines.

Brought on board as a combat medic, who shot far better than any combat medic they'd ever seen, found himself given the title "Doctor Death" for his ever-mounting kill count while his medical services were not required. It was during the next few years where the volatile relationship between Cross and Ortega crashed and burned in a fiery mess. Cross, who had been promised a glowing personal recommendation from the Major when he went to rejoin Starfleet, hopefully leading to a higher starting rank, she instead refused the request.

Hoping that he would eventually be able to change her mind, especially with some distance between the two of them, he was resigned to the fact that he would have to continue in his current role a little while longer.

Medical and Psychological Information

Medical Review Following treatment administered on a long-standing left shoulder injury sustained in active duty, I am pleased to confirm that Cross is now in excellent physical condition, only helped by the attention to detail he shows to his dietary requirements, and a long-standing commitment to his physical training regime.
Allergies/Health Issues None
Counseling Review Considering the amount of classified material in Cross' service record, it is perhaps no surprise that he has seen more 'action' than you would expect of a typical Marine, and seems unwilling to talk much about these experiences, and I feel this is out of preference rather than because of their classified nature.

Despite this, I feel that he is generally a well put-together individual with a problem-solving nature, and a clear head on his shoulders in the event of a crisis. His Academy background is medical, but he has a curious mind and a very broad range of interests outside of that, meaning that he may have uses outside of combat in a starship capacity.
