She was raised on the MacBride family estate in Scotland in considerable privilege, although her childhood was not necessarily a happy one. The marriage between Hamish and Elena was largely loveless. Five years after Samaire's birth, Elena gave birth to another daughter, Skye. It was widely known within the family that Hamish and Elena had ceased sharing a bed following Samaire's birth, leaving considerable doubt over Skye's biological parentage. For Samaire, however, that distinction meant very little. Skye was her little sister. Much of Samaire's childhood was spent in the care of nannies and governesses. Whenever she could escape their supervision, she frequently followed her older half-brother Douglas around the estate. Through him she developed both a strong attachment to the MacBride lands and an understanding of the people who lived and worked there. Samaire was fourteen when her mother died from congenital heart failure after refusing treatment. Elena's death fractured what remained of the family. Despite reclaiming the estate, Samaire made it clear that she had no intention of leaving Starfleet. She continues to enjoy her career and regards Kintyre as a family home, a place for shore leave and, perhaps eventually, retirement. Her relationship with Liam also brought another significant change. Together, **Samaire and Liam formally adopted Skylah**. Although Skylah is biologically Samaire's niece and the daughter of her late sister Skye, she is legally and emotionally their daughter. Liam has embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, while Skylah has become firmly integrated into the wider Reece family. That family continued to grow around Samaire when Liam's older brother Nicholas returned to the USS Elysium. Nicholas's return reunited the three Reece brothers and gave Samaire and Skylah another connection within the family they had joined. For Samaire, these relationships represent something she once thought impossible. When she awakened aboard the Acheron more than a century after disappearing, virtually every member of her original family was gone. By the end of this period aboard Elysium, she once again had a husband, a daughter, brothers and sisters-in-law, extended family and a home waiting for them on Earth. The woman who had arrived aboard Elysium uncertain whether she and Skylah could ever belong in the 24th century had finally begun to do exactly that. MacBride Estate Following her return to the Federation, Samaire discovered that Douglas had legally left the MacBride estate and inheritance to her. Because she had been presumed dead for more than a century, control of the estate had passed through other members of the family. Samaire initially chose not to pursue an immediate legal confrontation and established a home in Monterey, California, with Skylah. She nevertheless refused repeated requests from her descendants to surrender her legal claim to the MacBride inheritance. She has since successfully reclaimed her birthright and is recognised as the current head of the MacBride estate. Despite possessing the title and property associated with the family, Samaire has no intention of abandoning Starfleet and considers the estate a family home rather than a replacement for her career. The Circinus Galaxy The beginning of Season 6 brought another catastrophic displacement into Samaire's life. When the USS Elysium encountered a quantum filament, an emergency use of the Quantum Slipstream Drive prevented the vessel from being cut apart but hurled the ship approximately thirteen million light-years from Federation space into the Circinus Galaxy. The event devastated Elysium and killed hundreds of her crew. In the immediate aftermath, Samaire drew upon skills from her original career and returned to piloting duties, helping transport personnel and supplies between the crippled starship and the temporary planetary base established by the survivors. Her first priority whenever duty allowed, however, was finding her family. Samaire eventually located Skylah and Seraph near Medical and discovered that Liam had survived but required treatment in the burns unit. The reunion brought enormous relief, but there was little time for the family to recover before the realities of survival took over. #### Survival Elysium's crew spent more than ten months stranded on a frozen world while the damaged ship was repaired sufficiently to support life again. During that period Samaire continued contributing wherever Operations required her. She assisted with logistics, transport and exploratory activity, using whatever functional Starfleet equipment could be salvaged or transported to the surface. Life became considerably more basic than anything Samaire had experienced during her Starfleet career. The MacBride-Reece family lived amongst the rest of the survivors while repairs continued above them. Liam spent part of the early period recovering from his injuries, leaving Samaire balancing Operations responsibilities with supporting both her husband and Skylah. Despite the conditions, the family retained some semblance of normality wherever possible. Small moments together became increasingly important in a community surrounded by loss. After ten months and fourteen days, Elysium was finally habitable again and the survivors returned aboard. The experience left another mark on Samaire. She had already lost one life to circumstances beyond her control aboard the Acheron; Circinus demonstrated that even the future she had painstakingly rebuilt could disappear just as quickly. #### Memory Lane — The Acheron Returns One of the most psychologically difficult periods of Samaire's life occurred when Elysium entered a region of space associated with the species connected to the USS Acheron's disappearance. The encounter triggered an extreme resurgence of trauma in both Samaire and Skylah. Their nightmares intensified dramatically. Samaire went for several days with almost no meaningful sleep, while Skylah began refusing food and withdrawing from almost everyone around her. For Samaire, the situation was especially frightening because the imagery and emotions felt connected to memories she still could not consciously access. The prospect of remaining awake while travelling through that territory became intolerable. Concerned particularly for Skylah's deteriorating physical and emotional condition, Samaire approached Doctor Sthilg with an extraordinary request: she asked that both she and Skylah be medically sedated until Elysium had passed safely beyond the region. The request was not made lightly. Being rendered unconscious carried its own psychological difficulty for Samaire because it echoed the helplessness of the suspended state in which she had spent more than a century. Nevertheless, she considered Skylah's wellbeing more important than her own fear. Sthilg ultimately agreed, placing both of them under controlled medical sedation until the ship cleared the area. During that period another piece of Samaire's past resurfaced. **Alessandra Sheffield**, a fellow survivor of the USS Acheron, arrived aboard Elysium and discovered Samaire and Skylah in Medical. Alessandra had memories of events aboard the Acheron that Samaire did not possess. Her reaction suggested that the missing memories may contain considerably darker truths than Samaire currently understands. Alessandra even expressed the belief that Samaire might be better off not remembering everything that happened to them. When Elysium finally left the dangerous region, Samaire and Skylah were awakened. The immediate danger had passed. The unanswered questions surrounding the Acheron had not. #### Life Continues Following the Memory Lane crisis, Samaire returned to Operations and attempted to restore some normality to family life. The quieter periods of Season 6 allowed Samaire, Liam and Skylah to settle again into the rhythms of shipboard family life. Skylah continued growing, something her parents viewed with equal pride and mock horror, while Samaire remained an active member of Elysium's Operations department. Her ability to adapt also continued to show in unexpected ways. Samaire had been born during an era when relations between the Federation and Romulans were profoundly different, yet when Romulan survivors later came aboard Elysium she treated them professionally and openly, helping assign and prepare quarters for them without allowing the prejudices of her original century to dictate her behaviour. #### The Conglomerate Attack During a later attack on the USS Elysium, hostile boarding creatures breached several decks. Samaire was on Deck Eight with Sapphire Morgan and Cassia Cavendish when the alarms sounded. Her first reaction was not to protect herself. It was to confirm that the ship's nursery and school had been sealed and that the children were safe. Once she knew they were protected, Samaire armed herself and joined the defence. The attackers reached the corridors leading towards the school, forcing Samaire and those with her into direct combat to prevent them breaking through. Samaire was wounded during the fighting, suffering significant damage to her left leg. She survived and underwent regenerative treatment in Sickbay. Medical staff confirmed that she would retain full use of the limb and was expected to regain normal mobility. The attack nevertheless added another trauma to an already extraordinary collection of experiences. #### An Unexpected Future During routine medical scans associated with Samaire's injuries, doctors discovered something completely unexpected. Samaire was pregnant. The pregnancy was estimated at approximately six weeks and was assessed as healthy, with the regenerative treatment having caused no harm. For Samaire, the news represented something far greater than a medical result. She had been born in 2236. She had vanished from history. She had awakened more than a century later believing almost everyone she loved was gone. She had rebuilt her career, reclaimed her home, married Liam and made Skylah their daughter. Now, despite everything Circinus had taken from them, Samaire and Liam were expecting another child. For perhaps the first time since the Acheron disappeared, Samaire's future was no longer defined principally by what she had lost. It was also being defined by what was still to come.

She underwent extensive medical treatment, counselling, rehabilitation and evaluation before being cleared to begin retraining. **2396–2397** **Earth / Starfleet Retraining** Samaire underwent recertification for modern Starfleet vessels and systems. Her previous piloting qualifications were updated and she completed additional training for contemporary starship classes. She currently holds the rank of **Lieutenant**. ### Circinus Galaxy — Season 6 Following the catastrophic quantum-filament incident that stranded the USS Elysium in the Circinus Galaxy, Samaire's earlier flight training became immediately valuable. With Elysium heavily damaged and requiring evacuation, Samaire recognised that the ship would be unable to sustain its injured complement and recommended locating a safe planetary refuge. She was subsequently reassigned temporarily to shuttle operations to assist with the evacuation and movement of personnel and supplies to the surface. During the ten-month survival period, Samaire continued serving wherever Operations required her. Her duties included logistics, equipment allocation, transport support and participation in surface expeditions while the crew repaired the Elysium. After the ship became habitable again, Samaire resumed regular Operations duties aboard Elysium. ### Memory Lane During Elysium's passage through Thaih'ean-controlled space, severe psychological symptoms connected to Samaire's previous experiences aboard the Acheron rendered both Samaire and Skylah temporarily unable to function normally. At Samaire's request, and under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, both were placed under temporary medical sedation until Elysium had cleared the affected region. Samaire subsequently returned to active duty. ### Conglomerate Incident During the Conglomerate boarding action, Samaire was working with fellow Operations personnel when hostile forces breached several decks. After confirming that the ship's school and nursery had been secured, Samaire armed herself and assisted in defending the approach to the children's areas against hostile boarding creatures. She sustained significant injury to her left leg during the fighting and required regenerative treatment. Medical personnel subsequently confirmed that she would regain full function of the limb. Medical Review		General Medical Status Samaire is a healthy human female with no known allergies. Physically, she remains approximately in her mid-twenties despite having been born in 2236. The discrepancy between her physical and chronological age is the result of the prolonged suspended-animation state she experienced following the disappearance of the USS Acheron. She successfully completed extensive medical rehabilitation following her recovery in 2396 and was subsequently cleared to return to active Starfleet service. There are no known chronic medical conditions directly preventing her from performing her duties. #### USS Acheron Samaire was recovered from the USS Acheron after approximately 136 years in an unexplained alien suspended-animation system. Her conscious memories of the period remain incomplete. She remembers the Acheron coming under attack, the ship's sensors failing and everything going dark. Her next clear memory is awakening aboard the recovered vessel, naked and covered in an unidentified substance, surrounded by other revived members of the crew. Gelatinous structures believed to have held the crew during the intervening years remained aboard the ship. Samaire does not consciously remember what occurred between the attack and her recovery. Following revival, she underwent extensive physical rehabilitation, medical evaluation and counselling before being permitted to return to duty. #### Acheron-Related Nightmares Since her recovery, Samaire has suffered recurring nightmares associated with the Acheron. These episodes are not unique to her. Similar symptoms have been reported amongst other recovered members of the ship's complement, including nightmares, sleep disturbances and other trauma-related behaviours. Early counsellors suggested that the nightmares might represent fragmented or suppressed memories of what occurred during the missing years. Attempts to recover those memories were unsuccessful. Samaire has never been able to describe much of what she experiences within the nightmares. Starfleet Medical subsequently requested that surviving Acheron personnel maintain journals documenting their dreams and emotional condition so that significant changes could be identified and appropriate support provided. Samaire follows this practice for both herself and Skylah. The psychological effects of the Acheron remain an ongoing medical consideration rather than a resolved condition. #### Memory Suppression / Missing Memories The precise cause of Samaire's missing memories remains unknown. Later contact with another Acheron survivor, Alessandra Sheffield, established that some survivors retain considerably more memory of what happened during the missing period than Samaire does. Sheffield expressed the belief that Samaire may be better off not recovering those memories because of the nature of what occurred. No attempt should therefore be made to forcibly retrieve Samaire's missing memories without appropriate medical and psychological supervision. #### Circinus Galaxy The catastrophic displacement of the USS Elysium into the Circinus Galaxy exposed Samaire to another prolonged survival situation. Although she remained functional and continued performing her duties during the evacuation and subsequent ten-month planetside survival period, the experience added considerable psychological strain to an individual already carrying unresolved trauma from the Acheron. Her primary coping mechanisms during this period centred upon maintaining routine, fulfilling her duties and protecting her family. #### Thaih'ea Exposure — Memory Lane Samaire's most serious documented psychological deterioration occurred during Elysium's passage through territory associated with the Thaih'ea, the civilisation subsequently connected to what happened to the Acheron. Both Samaire and Skylah began experiencing increasingly severe nightmares. Samaire became profoundly sleep deprived, sleeping no more than a few hours across several days. Skylah's condition deteriorated further, with the child barely sleeping or eating and becoming increasingly withdrawn. Samaire was herself unable to rest even when given the opportunity and remained awake for prolonged periods beside Skylah. The combination of severe sleep deprivation, recurring nightmares and the emotional impact of recognising a connection to the Acheron eventually led Samaire to conclude that remaining conscious during the ship's passage through the region posed a greater risk than controlled medical sedation. She therefore requested that Doctor Sthilg medically sedate both herself and Skylah until Elysium had cleared Thaih'ea-controlled space. The decision was particularly difficult for Samaire because unconsciousness and medical confinement echoed aspects of her previous suspended-animation experience. Nevertheless, she prioritised Skylah's physical wellbeing over her own discomfort. The request was approved following medical examination. Both were maintained under controlled medical supervision until the immediate environmental trigger had passed. #### Psychological Considerations Samaire is generally psychologically functional and remains fit for active Starfleet service. She demonstrates considerable resilience and is capable of continuing to work effectively during crises. However, she has a tendency to internalise emotional distress and may continue performing her duties longer than is healthy before acknowledging that she requires assistance. She sustained significant trauma to her **left leg** and required regenerative treatment. Follow-up examinations determined that the treatment was successful and that Samaire would retain full use of the limb. Normal mobility was expected to return within approximately forty-eight hours. Although physically recoverable, the attack produced additional nightmares involving the creatures responsible for her injuries. #### Pregnancy Medical scans performed during treatment following the Conglomerate attack revealed that Samaire was approximately **six weeks pregnant**. The pregnancy was unexpected but wanted. Medical assessment found the pregnancy to be healthy, and the regenerative treatment administered to Samaire's injured leg caused no harm to the developing foetus. At present there is no indication within the available medical record of complications. Her primary ongoing psychological concern remains the unresolved trauma surrounding the loss and eventual recovery of the USS Acheron. Since her return to the Federation, Samaire has experienced recurring nightmares and periods of disturbed sleep associated with the Acheron. Similar symptoms have been reported by other survivors, and Starfleet Medical has previously encouraged survivors to maintain records of their dreams and emotional state. Samaire retains only fragmented memories of what occurred following the attack on the Acheron. Attempts to recover further memories have been unsuccessful.
