He is always immaculately dressed and clean shaven whether he is in uniform or out. He has been described, by those close to him, as ‘Quintessentially British’ a gentleman through and through. He has two specific identifying markers, the first a tattoo on his right shoulder, two crossed swords under a grinning skull within a wreath. Above the insignia was a ‘X’ and below ‘DLV’, the tattoo was a depiction of a unit insignia, the 555th Marine Boarding Assault Battalion, 10th Company. The second is a heavy gold ring he always wears on the pinkie finger of his left hand, the ring bore a coat of arms, a trio of rampant stags, beneath a crown. The Tanner Coat of Arms. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | A thoughtful man with an offhand confidence, he does not suffer fools gladly. When not on duty Alex is a relatively cheerful and easy-going sort, if somewhat aloof. His on-duty persona was born of two separate situations, the first was caused by losing his father at a young age and not particularly getting along with the ‘replacement’, as he calls him, that his mother married. The second was as a Marine Officer that has seen Combat, and some of the worst examples of individuals that galaxy has to offer, sometimes you see too much as a Boarding Officer, slavery, murder, and degradation of individuals that leaves a stain on someone’s soul. | |

Hobbies & Interests | Alexander has a wide range of hobbies ranging from target shooting, skiing, mountain climbing and space diving. He is also a keen pugilist and student of Japanese Kenjutsu along with standard European Fencing. He also likes re-enacting historical dramas and tales on the holodeck. Character Background
Personal History | The Tanner family is English of ancient origin that can trace their ancestry back through Anglo-Saxon, Viking Norse and Norman bloodlines. The family eventually settled in Somerset just outside of the town of Bath it was into this family that Alexander Wellesley Tanner was born. Born to Reginald and Elizabeth Tanner, he grew up on the family estate of Oak Ridge, a large manor home just outside of Bath in Somerset. His father was a Captain in the Starfleet Marines and his mother a tenured Professor of Ancient History at Kings College in London. Alex had a completely normal and happy childhood up until the age of seven when his father was tragically killed in the line of duty. A young Alex and his class had been attending a practical science lesson in the engine room of the USS Amberly. His class had been enjoying a highly entertaining, if severely toned-down lecture relating to the properties of warp space travel from the Assistant Chief Engineer when alarms started blaring all over the room. Within seconds the room was filled with Engineers and Technicians running scans and making noise, the class was almost out of the room when the first explosion happened, Alex was one of four students thrown back into the engineering room when one of the consoles exploded. He was shaking the grogginess from his mind when he realised, he was being carried from the room by a familiar figure, his father, Captain Reginald Tanner SFMC. He watched as his father deposited him with his classmates to run back into the engineering room to assist in the evacuation of the injured, he had pulled another seven crewmembers from the fires before the inevitable happened. Alex could see clearly the moment that his father knew that the fires had reached a catastrophic level, he saw clearly as his father slammed his hand down on the console next to the door activating the emergency seal and he saw clearly his father and the remaining thirty-four crewmen were consumed by the flames. The loss of his father had a profound impact on Alex he was less cheerful and more withdrawn than he had been before the accident, he blamed himself for his father’s death even though there was nothing that he could have done. As soon as he was able, he left home and joined Starfleet Academy in the Marine Officer entry program, following in his father’s footsteps, much to his mother’s horror, they have hardly spoken since. Alex enjoyed his time at the academy, not necessarily the mathematical portion of his studies as anyone who knows him would be able to confirm that maths was his worst subject, although he did surprise people by picking up a second language, Romulan. During his academy years he found that he was able to make some lifelong friends and felt like he had finally embarked on the path that he was meant to take. |
