Character Background

Personal History Natacha grew up on the recently re-discovered world of Randeer III. Randeer III was originally settled in the 22nd century by colonists from the Indian subcontinent. The original colonists wanted to create a world where everyone could strive to become the best versions of themselves. The Greek ideal would be pursued, with colonists excelling in physical, mental and spiritual pursuits. The original colonists were carefully screened, with those passing the screening process being given legally questionable gene therapy to both eliminate any disease and disabilitypotential, as well as adapt the original colonists to the higher gravity of Randeer III (Randeer III was chosen not only for its idyllic environment, but also for a higher gravity well that would dissuade potential future colonists from "contaminating" the original colony selection).

Within a decade of the original settlement, the eruption of a super volcano in the planet's southern hemisphere wreaked havoc with the planet's ecosystem, destroyed the colony's nebulous connection to Earth, and reducing the colony to just two settlements in the far northern hemisphere. The colony leader's convinced themselves that draconian measures (akin to those used by Kodos, governor of Tarsus IV) had to be taken.

Two centuries later, when Randeer III was rediscovered by the USS Golding, the colony has become an authoritarian state where families of any type have been eliminated. Instead, all children are created in vitro, brought to term in artificial gestation devices, and raised in creche-style residences. Genetic "donor matches" are determined by a sophisticated computer program, with no colonist aware if they have any children, or how many.

There were several games and competitive sports on Randeer III, with the two most popular being Shatranchun and Rollerball.

Shatranchun has begun its existence as a sort of decathlon with intellectual and cultural elements added, but had since devolved into a bizarre blood sport. Like most sport and games on Randeer III, Shatranchun was used to not only help determine which colonists had genes worth preserving, but was also used to wean out weaker colonists. All colonist face "retirement" by age 45.

The most popular sport on Randeer III is Rollerball, which was recreated by the rulers of Randeer III from the 1975 Earth movie of the same name. Unlike other games and sports on Randeer III, which served as a measuring stick of an individual's worth, Rollerball was used to demonstrate the need of the individual to subject themselves to the collective good.

The USS Golding arrived when sixteen year old Natacha was becoming a rising star in both Shatranchun and Rollerball. The Golding's arrival started a revolution, with the new provisional government asking for and receiving aid from the Federation.

Rollerball and Shatranchun still exist on Randeer III, though with Rollerball being very "de-bloodified", and Shatranchun being returned to what it was originally meant to be. The violent forms of both sports are still played in illegal underground settings.

Teenagers and young adults were adopted into a Federation program designed to acclimate them to mainstream Federation human lifestyle. It was dr=uring this time frame Natacha developed her love for Roadrunner/Coyote cartoons (and would develop her catch phrase for when a situation went south). Eighteen year old Natacha would enlist in the Starfleet Marine Corps and start her new life among the stars.
Service Record Originally enlisted in the Starfleet Marine Corps, the watershed moment in Natacha's career was when she was involved in something called the Bremian Skirmish. The redacted version of the incident reveals Natacha was a junior NCO only tangentially involved in the incident. Whatever disciplinary charges fell against others in the incident, Natacha's record remained unblemished, and she even received a minor commendation for an unspecified actions. Natacha was sent to Officer Candidate School shortly afterwards, and continued her career in the Marines.
