Character Background
| Personal History | Alessandra was not a planned child by her parents who, planned each pregnancy down to the dates of birth and gender. As is Sheffield tradition, all children were planned meticulously and a surprise pregnancy threw out the entire game plan. Her parents were rather put out by this surprise child, and Alessandra was often left with nannies for the most part as her parents often focused on the ‘planned children’ and their lives. Four years separated Alessandra from her next eldest sibling, Kali and those four years were very telling. Where Kali was bright and outgoing and shining in her parent’s love and praise, Alessandra was pretty much ignored and left to her own devices. This led Ales (Alice) she liked to be called, to become a loner within the family. As she grew up, she became more and more aware that her presence in the family was not welcomed by her parents or her siblings, Alessandra learned how to avoid conflict by keeping herself to her own bedroom as much as possible. She set her goals early in her life and worked towards them, constantly changing the methods to reach them until she found the right path. At the age of 6, Alessandra chose to work towards the lofty goal of being a doctor and joining Starfleet. Two of her older brothers were already working within Starfleet and had made very good careers there. At 7 however she was tested and it was discovered that the family’s selective breeding program for centuries had brought some rather startling attributes into the genetic structures, which had been missed in the older children. Alessandra has a photographic memory, and rather limited ESP. She was also highly intelligent, which worked against her parents who suddenly found interest in their youngest child. Alessandra rejected them and their new found ‘love and affection’ for her, content to work towards her own goals and not that of her parents. Alessandra threw herself into her studies determined to learn all she could about medicine in all cultures. She asked for tutors from Vulcan, to help her understand Vulcan physiology and biology, and her parents, reluctantly granted that. By the age of 10, Alessandra had finished primary schooling and was halfway through her High school education. She was determined to learn all she could, so she could leave home and live on her own. She studied medicine under her Vulcan tutor for 3 years, and studied alternate medicine via another tutor from the wilds of the Americas. During this time, from the ages of 10-14, Alessandra turned her bedroom at Olympus House into her own private sanctuary, filled with her own personal flights of fancy and the one hidden talent she kept from her parents. Alessandra could paint and draw very well, and hadn’t had any instruction in it. What she had learned she had learned from books from the family library and her own imagination. At 15, Alessandra moved out of home, and removed her title from her name. She headed to Oxford and started university there, determined to get her medical degree from there before joining Starfleet. It was here, Alessandra made what she would consider her first friend. Though at the time, that friend was not a true friend, but someone who her parents paid to keep an eye on her. The friend, a teen by the name of Naomi, was of the same class as Alessandra but not as smart and after three months, she slipped up and let the plan slip. Alessandra was very hurt over the whole incident and threw herself back into her studies and her art. At 21, Alessandra completed her studies, having taken extra time to cram as many courses in as possible. Then she took a vacation. Alessandra, packed up her belongings and moved completely from the family home, moving into a small house in Hawaii. She didn’t need a big house, and the small two bedroom house, her parents called it a shack, suited her well. Alessandra took a year to herself. She relaxed on the beach, learned to surf, made casual friends with the locals and then she applied to Starfleet. In 2258, she was accepted into Starfleet’s medical program at the age of 22. Alessandra was assigned straight away to a posting due to her completion of her medical degree. USS Melbourne, where her sister Selene was stationed. It was, to be concise, a disaster. Selene chose not to acknowledge the youngest of the family, and Alessandra refused to bow and scrape to her sister as Selene expected lower ranks to do. After 6 months, Alessandra asked for a transfer. She was transferred to the USS Archeron as a medical officer. The Archeron vanished in 2260. When it was found in 2396, Alessandra was not among those recovered. It was believed that she was among those killed by the race they met. They were wrong. |
