Personality & Traits

General Overview Lissa grew up on Starships, Lissa is comfortable around all races and people. Teachers often described her as outgoing, and took note that she was often the one to make sure that new students knew where everything was and made a point to introduce them to the other children and helped them to make friends. She is still like this as an adult. At the Academy, and so far in her history with Starfleet, she has been able to meet and make a lot of friends, and bring a lot of diverse groups of people together and form large, close knit social groups. She likes to throw parties - particularly if there is dancing and live music or karaoke involved.

When it comes to work Lissa is either focused at 150% or at 50% - There is rarely an in-between speed for her. She has a tendency to hyper-focus on problems and experiments that have urgent deadlines or otherwise capture her attention. Projects that aren’t urgent or particularly interesting tend to get pushed to the backburner and left for later. Lissa can remember almost every theory, every equation, and every scientific principle that she has ever studied, but needs to set reminders for things like friend’s and family’s birthdays and anniversaries.
Strengths & Weaknesses *social
*kind, inclusive
*energetic, enthusiastic
*knowledgeable in her field

*restless, anxious while waiting or sitting still,
*Rejection sensitivity - worrying when she thinks someone doesn’t like her or she hasn’t done well
*has trouble being alone for extended periods of time
*making personal decisions - life choices
*Prejudiced against Orion nationals
Ambitions To find and meet some of her Orion family, or at least find them and see what they are doing.

Career ambitions are in flux. She’s at a turning point trying to decide if she would like to continue with Science, and start Command training, or if she’d like to start adding Medical training to her resume so she can help out more in medical emergencies.
Hobbies & Interests hanging out with friends at parties - doesn't have to be loud and crazy, just people talking and playing games is fine; water sports - swimming, sunbathing, water-skiing, inner-tubing, anything in water; karaoke, musical theater

Character Background

Personal History Lissa was born on a Starship and practically grew up on them. She has no siblings. Her parents had a difficult time conceiving her due to the damage her mother's slave owners had done in an attempt to make her mother infertile. The pregnancy was hard on mother and baby alike. Runa called Lissa her miracle, and so she became the only child of her parents, but Lissa made up for the lack of siblings by always finding friends aboard the ship. As a young child, Lissa loved living aboard Starships and had an early mindset toward becoming a Starfleet Officer. Lissa had no qualms about approaching officers and finding who would be friendly to her, and serve as unofficial mentors - giving her menial tasks like watering plants so she could feel like she was contributing.

Lissa's mother was a former Orion slave and prisoner, she and her sister were kidnapped from their families at a young age. Lissa's mom, Runa, still hasn't found out whatever became of her sister, D'shanna. Runa was liberated when a Starfleet operation took down an place where the Syndicate was trying to get a foothold in Federation Space. Lissa's father was serving as an engineer on board the ship that transported the refugees away from the area. The older Lissa grew, the more she could convince her mother to tell her about her live before and the Orion government's complacency with the Syndicate. As a result, Lissa has some deeply rooted prejudices against the Syndicate and anyone who is willing to just look the other way to their actions. In Lissa's eyes, this includes the Batchok government.

Lissa was 8 years old when the Dominion War started, and she and her mom were sent to Earth to reside near her father’s family in what used to be known as Kentucky. For almost two full years Lissa didn’t understand the gravity of the situation as her father was off serving in the war. Lissa learned to love the open fields and how much she loved dogs and swimming. Then the planet wide blackouts and alerts came and she could sense an uneasiness that wasn’t there before. Then there was the morning that they had heard that her father’s ship had been destroyed. Jonathan Kerr was missing, presumed dead for three weeks. Lissa was turning 11, and often acted older than she was. Lissa kept telling her mother and her grandparents that her father wasn’t dead - that she knew it. Lissa refused to believe it until there was proof. Finally, after almost three weeks, he and several others were discovered on a Class L planet outside of the original search area. He was injured and had suffered from exposure but he was alive.

When they were waiting for Lissa’s father to come home, Lissa’s great-great grandmother had asked her to come visit. Grandma Donnie told Lissa how some people had a gift for seeing things that other people couldn’t and that many of us have it when we are young, but we stop trusting it when we get older. Her grandmother also told her that in modern times more and more people were turning away from things they couldn’t explain - like how Lissa knew that her father was alive. But her grandmother encouraged her to never forget the feeling she had when what she knew came true, and to always trust her instincts. This moment stuck with Lissa, though as an adult she would struggle with it - the push and pull between her gut and science.

Lissa’s father recovered after some time. He didn’t get sent back to the war front, but he was back to active duty. It was 2378 before he was comfortable bringing his family back on board a Starship again, and even then there was some trepidation. Lissa’s mother was nervous, always trying to convince to take a job in a shipyard or on a Starbase. Lissa was 13 then, and happy to be back in space, enjoying what wonders families were permitted to see when traveling with Starfleet officers. Just four years later, she was accepted into Starfleet Academy at age 17 to begin her studies in the Sciences.
