Personality & Traits

General Overview Alexander is described by most in a simple but effective term, 'easy going'. He is generally open minded and optimistic in most situations and tries to keep a sarcastic and witty sense of humour. Alex is also easy to excite and has a great enthusiasm for his job, which is clear to see by his colleagues. Though usually harmless, this has often been unwittingly portrayed in such a way as to appear overbearing and reactive. This does ring true in certain situations, as even though he is easy to get along with in most scenarios, there are certain topics and situations that can irritate Alex to such an extent that a rare negative side to him makes an appearance.
Strengths & Weaknesses Alexander's optimistic and objective approach to most situations allows him to generally perform as best as he can, trying his best in the majority of scenarios. This optimism (often viewed as being unrealistic), combined with his often failing attempts at humour, have often resulted in him clashing with colleagues, especially Vulcans. Furthermore, should he find a fellow shipmate being disruptive or 'not pulling their weight' in some fashion, he will not be afraid to speak his mind. This has landed him in some trouble in the past due to way he has confronted others about his grievances.

Alexander has a great enthusiasm for his position on the ship and the skill set required to fulfil it. He's always had a passion for exploring the vast emptiness of space and even from a young age could be found experimenting with old sensor arrays and scanning equipment. Now in his adulthood and equipped with Starfleet Academy training and the resources of an entire starship, his skills in Astrometrics have come to light. Throughout his time in the academy however, the amount of time spent studying other areas significantly lacked, such as in general security and medical procedures.
Ambitions Prior to enlisting in the fleet, Alexander had always dreamed of founding his own space exploration institute which was entirely independent of Starfleet, but remained in the Federation. His father, who had served in Starfleet for many decades, convinced him his dreams could be achieved by climbing the ladder in Starfleet. He now works hard to lead a science venture of his own within the 9th.
Hobbies & Interests Alexander spends much of his spare time divided between precious holodeck time in sports games and the bar. As a very social man, he tries to include others in all his hobbies, whether it be spending his spare time constructing the most obscure sensor arrays imaginable to simply spending some time playing old Earth board games at the bar with a pint of the best synthahol.

Character Background

Personal History When Alex was 20 he applied to Starfleet Academy, but his application was rejected on medical grounds. Several months prior to his first academy application, his mother and younger sister had suddenly passed away after being involved in an extremely rare transporter accident. After living with his mother and sister alone for most of his childhood, this greatly affected Alexander. His usually joyful personality was crushed and his mental health in general began to decline. It was this that forced the academy to decline his initial application and refer him to a Federation counselor.

It took Alexander several years to fully overcome this trauma and make a successful academy application, but still he found work in with civilian organisations serving on trade vessels, freighters and small exploration ships in basic roles in operations and science. When he did apply for the academy a second time, he passed his all entrance exams once again, and most importantly his mental health evaluation.

During his time in the academy he found his true calling in Astrometrics. He originally entered courses geared towards operations, but his instructors' keen eyes saw his talent lied elsewhere and directed him towards the Science faculty, specifically the Stellar Cartography and Astrometrics academies. Overall he spent 9 years at the academy, the first two studying and training and operations, before transferring to Science.

After graduating from the academy, he was commissioned as a Science officer at Starfleet Headquarters and became an assistant to some of the best Stellar Cartographers and Astrometric Scientists the Federation had to offer. For a time he even worked with San Franciso's famed Astrometric super computer which has been operating continuously after many upgrades since Enterprise NX-01. Following this he was deployed to a Rhode Island class ship, the USS Everett, as the Astrometric Officer. He became accustom to life on board a small Science vessel, but found that even this didn't quite meet his own requirements. As such, he submitted a transfer request to the Admiralty after hearing about the re-emergence of Admiral Myrkul Sharr's famed prototype vessel, the USS Elysium. He now hopes to achieve his dreams in the Ninth Fleet.
