Personality & Traits
General Overview | Torian Vale is a skilled and resilient Starfleet Marine, known for his expertise in reconnaissance, sniper operations, and survival skills. Born and raised on a small ranch in Montana, Earth, Torian developed a deep connection to nature early in life. He learned to track wildlife and hone his precision marksmanship through hunting trips with his father, a Starfleet Security officer. These formative experiences shaped Torian’s survivalist mindset and practical understanding of the wilderness, traits that would later define his career in the Marines. Although he prefers solitude and thrives in outdoor environments, Torian’s loyalty to Starfleet is unwavering, and he excels under pressure, often performing best in high-stakes situations. However, Torian’s journey is marked by personal tragedy. When he was 15, his father was killed in an ambush by criminals seeking revenge, leaving Torian and his mother traumatized. His mother, Sarah, withdrew into isolation, and Torian followed suit, becoming self-reliant and emotionally detached. This emotional distance has made it difficult for him to form deep connections, a challenge that persists throughout his life. Despite his impressive skills and achievements, including saving a classmate during a fire in high school and excelling at Starfleet Academy, Torian's stubbornness and risk-taking behavior sometimes put him at odds with his superiors. Still, his strong sense of duty and survival instincts have cemented his reputation as a dependable Marine, with his pet Labrador, Midnight, offering him the companionship he often struggles to find with others. |

Character Background
Personal History | Torian Vale was born in Montana, Earth, in 2367. The Vale family owned a small ranch outside of Shelby. Torian’s father, Michael, was a Starfleet Security officer stationed at a nearby base on Earth, while his mother, Sarah Vale, was a botanist. Growing up in the Montana, Torian developed a deep connection to nature. His father often took him on long hunting trips, teaching him patience, precision, and survival skills in the wilderness. From an early age, Torian also developed a love for animals, particularly horses and dogs. He had several of them. His bond with these animals became a source of comfort for him, especially after the trauma he would face in his teenage years. When Torian was just 15 years old, tragedy struck. While his father was off-world, their home was broken into by criminals with a vendetta against his father. Torian’s mother tried to protect him, but they were overpowered and held hostage for hours. As his father attempted to negotiate their release from afar while en route back to the ranch, he was ambushed and killed by the same group before he could reach his family. The traumatic event left a deep emotional scar on Torian, instilling in him a drive to protect those he loved and fueling his desire to become self-reliant. From that moment, Torian knew Starfleet would be his calling—a path that would give him the skills and authority to prevent similar tragedies. It would take a few more events to really focus on joining Starfleet. In the aftermath of Michael’s death, Torian’s mother, Sarah, became withdrawn. She was unable to bear the weight of her husband’s death and the loneliness that followed. Isolating herself in her work, she retreated into long periods of silence, barely speaking to Torian. Torian tried to reach out to her, but his efforts were met with little success. Torian also withdrew, spending most of his time alone. He became highly self-reliant and independent, finding solace in the outdoors along with his golden retriever, Rex, who accompanied him on his alone trips into the nearby wilderness. As Torian entered high school, he found an outlet by joining various athletic clubs and activities focused on physicality and sports. He excelled in physical education and outdoor courses, where his talents shone. In subjects like history and biology, he thrived, especially when lessons delved into military strategy and survival techniques. However, he struggled with abstract subjects such as mathematics and literature, finding it difficult to engage in topics that didn’t seem to have a practical application in his life. Despite his academic challenges, Torian’s teachers admired his work ethic. Torian’s reputation for bravery and leadership was cemented when a fire broke out during a school event. Most students evacuated quickly, but one classmate was trapped. Without hesitation, Torian risked his own life to pull the injured student to safety. The incident solidified his image as someone who thrived in high-stakes situations, earning the respect of both his peers and teachers. After graduating high school, Torian enlisted in Starfleet Academy, choosing the path of the Marines. His father’s legacy as a Starfleet officer and his desire to prevent future tragedies like his father’s death were key motivators. At the Academy, Torian excelled in hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, and reconnaissance. His skills in long-range precision tactics earned him a spot in the top 30% of his class, and his instructors recommended him for the Marine Scout/Sniper program due to his excellence in target finding and action shooting. Torian’s emotional detachment and isolation remains a challenge. Although he can hold a basic conversation or provide a thorough report if needed, connecting someone on a personal level is difficult. He might just need the right person to come along. Additionally, Torian sometimes has the inclination to take risks outside of mission parameters. This has led to some verbal reprimands. However, his effectiveness in the field and his ability to complete missions has overshadowed his rebellious streak, which is why his service record remains clean at least for now. Torian Vale's personal history, with a deep loss, resilience, and a drive for excellence, shaped him into the Marine he is. One of great survival skills, a tactical mind, and dedication. He may not always find it easy to connect with others, but he is grounded by his love of service and his current pet Labrador Midnight who he finds companionship in. |
