Settling in

I arrived on board the Elysium yesterday, I did not realise how big it is. It seems to me it is like a small city with departments for everything. My ‘welcome’ interview went quite well and I am looking forward to beginning my duties as CTO in a couple of days. I have spent my time trying to find my way around the ship. I found the gym yesterday which seems quite well appointed. A crew member introduced himself to me and I was quite proud of myself engaging him in conversation, well really he engaged me but I didn’t cut him off. Counsellor Bryant would have been proud of me. I didn’t realise he was a Captain in the Academy here on the Elysium, they have cadets involved in what used to be called on old Earth ‘work experience’. Anyway after chatting and being rather rude to him he seemed to want to meet again to continue talking. I do not feel that he wants anything sexual from me. Of course I have become rather good at recognising that.

My quarters are the largest I have had and I do not have to share. I managed to put all my cloth bound books on shelves and it is already looking like home. When I have time I will get some furniture replicated which is more to my taste.

I have not been invited for counselling as yet but I have an appointment with the CMO who is Gorn, I have never met one of his species so I am looking forward to that. I am however not looking forward to socialising with male members of the crew, as always that never seems to change as I always look on them as potential aggressors.

On another personal note I have not spoken to Gan since I left the Prometheus, not even when I vacationed on Earth and, I do not know really why? She is my only living relative but was so much against my enrolment in The Academy we have not talked for several years now. Perhaps whenI am more settled I will do so.
