OOC--Allison: I'm going to post this as soon as I finish my JP with Gabbi/Rjodes about his promotion. It was great writing with you!

Breathing slowly Luke's body was relaxed as his trigger finger slowly squeezed sending a jolt through his arm and into his shoulder the kick easily absorbed through his body which all done in a short moment before breathing out through his nose. He did this another nine times before finally lowering the phaser rifle to the countertop in front of him and looked to his right where a console which displayed the readout explaining his score and form. 9 out of 10 was considered good, great even especially in the standing unsupported at 300m but it wasn't what it used to be before or during the Dominion war. Resetting the target he hadn't realised a newcomer had entered the room.

"Nice shooting, Gunny," Naxea commented as she entered the room with a grin and a pulse rifle cradled in her arm as she glanced at the score display. She hadn't really gotten the chance to meet the new Gunny as of yet.

Turning and removing his ear protectors he smiled at the woman in front of him, "Good morning Major!" He placed himself to attention as it was meant to be when an officer entered the room, especially one you wanted to make a good first impression.

"As you were," Naxea dismissed with a wave of her hand before grab "Good morning, Gunny. How is the range today?" she asked as she took her own position a few feet away.

Relaxing Wyatt pulled down his ear protection further so it was now resting around his neck with his yellow-tinted eye-pro still on. "It's going well, we never had one of these at my old assignment and it beats shooting bean cans off the top of walls" He joked with a smile preparing to watch the Major.

"What was your last assignment?" she asked as she powered up the pulse rifle and took aim. "Computer, initiate mobile target program Alpha Delta."

"I was posted on board the USS Venture as the ship's platoon sergeant." Luke answered immediately before explaining further, "I had a good couple of years but needed to a move to a family-friendly ship for my daughter." Luke turned to watch her shoot.

Naxea nodded at the comment as a spherical target drone appeared and began to float about, conducting sudden changes at random. She followed the probe and snapped off a shot that missed. She followed up with a second shot that the drone flew into, scoring a direct hit. The drone continued to dance about the space as Naxea scored a few more hits and two more misses. After ten shots, Naxea sighed. "I swear that thing can read my mind sometimes," she shook her head at the 70% rating. "So, how old is your daughter?"

Chuckling at the majors comment about the drones reading mines, he too had wondered the same thing on several occasions in his past. "Abbey, she's seventeen going on twenty-seven" He joked finally answering her question. "And completely different to me, well completely is a bit strong she aspires to be a doctor or scientist and doesn't like the idea of violence however is stubborn as hell and when she upset or mad she'll sure as hell let me know about it."

Young people were often idealistic if not sometimes naïve. If there was one constant in the universe, it was violence--something she learned all too well at a much younger age. "Is she interested in joining Starfleet? Or is she going the civilian route?"

"Oh that I do know, she's already started filling in her application for the academy, she hopes to use her time here on board to give her an edge above the rest." He explained, Luke swelled with pride at the conversation, though he had hoped she would be a Marine like him he couldn't deny there was some sense of achievement with having his daughter join Starfleet.

"That's good. I'm sure Commander Vantar in Science and Commander Sthilg in Medical will be good teachers," Naxea stated. "I just hope Sthilg being a Gorn doesn't scare her," she laughed.

Luke considered it for a moment and laughed, “Well I can't imagine she has come across one before so I guess only time will tell, if she comes home screaming I'll assume it didn't go so well, if she doesn't come home I'll assume he's eaten her and saved us all a headache. When she gets excited and she starts talking about this and that its hard to keep up."

"Well then, I wish you and her luck," Naxea replied as she smiled at the man. "Oh, that reminds me. Gunny Rhodes is receiving an honorary commission to Warrant Officer and promotion to Detachment XO. So that makes you the Detachment's First Sergeant as you're next in line. Congratulations, Gunny."

"Wow, thanks. I'll have to be sure to congratulate Rhodes, maybe a drink or two. Would you be in Ma'am?" Asked Luke. Drinking was a particular favorite past time for most marines and also the most time they got into trouble but the Marines promoted a 'healthy' drinking culture and it gave them their reputation. When anyone got promoted it often meant 'promotion drinks in the marine mess if there was one' and who was going to mess with tradition.

"Sure, why not. I'll have a drink or two," Naxea smiled.

Smiling he nodded, "Well I best go get changed and have my ear nagged off by Abbey. It was good to speak with you Major." He stood to attention and paying his respects to the senior officer and waited to be excused before heading to the exit and leaving.

"Dismissed," she smiled at the man, watching him exit the room.
