Brief Interview with Ms Elisha Pryce-Randal - onboard Ship Reporter

EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?

I am the Assistant Chief Medical Officer. I handle just about anything medical wise, from physicals, surgeries, and anything in between.

EPR: What made you choose that line of work?

Olivia smiled a little as she thought for a moment before replying. “Well, it all started with my having to patch up my older brothers whenever they got into some sort of fight for one thing or another when we were all younger. Even with me tending to their various injuries, our parents always found out about them fighting some how and then get onto them for it. Since I started early on patching up my brothers it was only natural that I would go in the medical field in some way when I got old enough to decide on what to do career wise.”

EPR:How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?

Some days are better than others when it comes to handling the pressure. There are times I have to remind myself to take a step back from a sit and focus on something else for a little while before resuming what was causing all the stress. Plus it helps to keep a stash of chocolate on hand for when it gets really bad.

EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?

Find an area that really interests you and explore all the options for that area of study. Plus I would suggest if a student showed interest in more than one area of the medical field then, I would suggest spending time in the various areas to see which area they excelled at and kept them challenged. That way it would give the Cadet an idea on what their strong areas are and then go from their to narrow the specialized area or areas they would like to study.

EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?

There are so many it would be hard to choose just one. But one of my favorite memories would have to be a ski trip that I went on during winter break with a group of friends. There were eight of us total on this particular trip. We had gotten a friendly competition going with who could reach the bottom of the ski slop the fastest. On this one particular trip down the ski slope a couple of us crashed into others in our group and a snowball fight started at the bottom of the hill. The snowball fight got a little out of hand after awhile and the guys had to end up buying the girls hot chocolates when we got back to the lodge and warmed up some by the fire in the lobby.

EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?

I haven't been on board all that long, so at the moment my funny tales is a bit limited. The one that comes to mind right now is when I got the chance to ambush an old friend and boyfriend from my Academy days with a snowball fight back during the Christmas party a few months ago. He was expecting me to come through one entrance so that he could start the snowball fight himself, but I ended up coming through a different entrance and got him instead.
