Brief Interview with Ms Elisha Pryce-Randal - onboard Ship Reporter
EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?
Lia:- Well I'm the Chief Security and Tactical Officer, which means I cover a wide variety of roles. Some official, some unofficial and some which when viewed from outside the ship may seem unimportant. For instance, talking to a ensign who's just joined the team. Or assisting the Captain with a visit from an ally.
EPR: What made you choose that line of work?
Many things sort of came together and pushed me into it, I originally enlisted as an Engineer. But things didn't quite work out, and a dear friend suggested a change. The rest as they say is history, but I'm not complaining.
EPR: How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?
Well now, lets think about that. Some would say I have an unhealthy obsession with Japanese anime, or even Japanese culture. Others may say a leather clad warrior Princess is kinda over compensating, but I just think I have a healthy curiosity and willingness to embrace something different.
EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?
Don't do it, no really. This is a job where personal feelings can get in the way, you may find yourself questioning if what your doing is right. But you have to ask yourself why you have to do what your in fact doing, and in the long run your defending what's right and keeping people safe. Which when they're all on a star ship, isn't an easy thing to do.
EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?
Blowing up the Commandant's Office, which also nearly got me thrown out of Star Fleet. I was young and stupid, with a very active imagination. A friend dared me to do it, saying I'd never get away with it. So stupidly I went for it, the bomb I made was transported outside the office before it went off. But it still destroyed the Office and put the poor guy in sickbay for a month. You see, instead of transporting it a safe distance. It ended up about six feet outside his window.
EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?
To many to mention, I managed to insult the Captain on my first day. I suppose that's the one which after three years is still making the rounds, even the Captain never stops reminding me of it. Then there's the first time I met our Gorn Doctor, I nearly exited the sickbay through the air extractors when he first appeared. There I was sitting on a bio bed, it was physical time and I didn't know about our Doctor. So my mind is else where when he appears behind me and say's hello in that Gorn voice of his, well I don't know who got the greater shock. Him or me, I mean when I first saw him I just wanted outta there. And the closest thing was an air extractor vent, needless to say I failed to make it. My brain suddenly kicked in and I stopped myself, I think he took it reasonably well. But a change of underwear was on the cards when I returned to my quarters.
