Devin had gotten a lucky shot but the fact that River had returned the action with a maiming attack to her face was a surprise. The pain from River smashing her head into her face put an explosive amount of pain splintering across her face. She inhaled through her nose, (habit and way of life for her in through nose out through mouth, kept ice crystal forming in ones lung in freezing air temperature), with shattered nose though it was a bad idea, the broken bits can move in weird or dangerous ways. As the pain seared across her face she felt a burning sensation behind her left eye, and a different pain followed with her left eye feeling like it was on fire, she blinked shaking her head but the blackness that filled the area where she normally saw something out of her left eye was scary. She blinked at River as her legs gave out from under her. She hadn't been in this much pain in years. Devin tried to focus on River but as she tried to breathe again, she coughed and tried again.

Devin breathed uneasily, her thoughts rolling in different directions. She had been taught to not hit folks in the nose unless she intended to maim or kill. Never for sparring match. The match between herself and River had been meant to be a test of skills and experience with likely some bruises or something but this result definitely hadn't been in her plans. She was confused had she not been clear about the intent of the sparring match? Or was River just that trained to be ready to maim or kill no matter the situation?

"Lia... we need to get her to sickbay," S'hib called out, supporting the weight of Devin in his arms. "She may have a concussion..." He added, looking back to Devin, the pool of blood on the mat between them growing worryingly large.

Now...

... Devin was trying very hard to not throw up on Lieutenant S'hib as he had been moving quickly to bring her to Sickbay, the build up of the ongoing pain wasn't doing much for her stomach but so far, she had managed to not get sick yet...

"Not much further Lieutenant." S'hib said through flared nostrils as he turned the last corner that lead to Sickbay. "You're doing really well." He added as he slowed his pace, allowing the doors to open fully before moving inside, careful not to hit her feet on the side of the frame as he ducked underneath.

"Doctor, I am in need of your assistance please..." S'hib snorted loudly as he gently moved Devin down on a biobed, careful not to let her lay down.

The Gorn still eating his breakfast roll stepped out of his office as he heard his name being called. Seeing the situation he dropped the roll and started running already barking orders. " Get her on a biobed. Nurse i need blood sssealant and plenty of the lieutenant'sss blood type."

"Way ahead of you Doctor, she was injured about five to ten minutes ago and her nose has yet to stop bleeding." S'hib said calmly, rubbing Devin's back gently.

" What were you doing?" The Gorn inquired as he helped her onto the biobed as held a cloth to her nose.

"Sparring match... " Devin said her voice muffled slightly from the cloth and her trying very hard to not throw up. She swallowed uneasily, "My nose doesn't feel right.... My left eye hurts... can't see from it..." She said between pained breaths. She wanted to tell S'hib thanks for his helping her and more for his not leaving her alone through the gentle reminder he was still there marked by the gentle rub on her back.

" Well keep ssstill and we'll take a look and sssee what's been broken." The Gorn said as he injected her with a painkiller.

"It was a hell of a hit she took, I'm amazed she's still conscious," S'hib said with a smile, gently lowering Devin onto the padded surface of the biobed, mindful to keep a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Just remember to breathe through your mouth, slow and steady."

Devin felt the pain killer taking effect, it made her feel very drowsy and she felt the tension lessen as the pain was dulled, she blinked at S'hib and Doctor Sthilg. She couldn't see either of them from her left eye but she quietly hoped that the Doctor would be able to remedy that, her nose she hoped would be okay too but she was more concerned about her vision. She let her eyes close for the moment and just tried to focus on what the Doctor was saying though if S'hib answered before she could she wasn't going to complain.

With Devin relaxing against the pillow the Gorn pulled a scanner from his belt and began running it over the eye. " Minor damage to the eye itself and you nearly sssevered the optic nerve. What were the two of you doing that caused an injure thisss bad?" " he said as he pulled another tool an optical regenerator from his belt before getting to work.

"I was trying to get some food, while this one here decided to spar with an Elasian... I don't think the rules were clear enough, however... probably my fault." S'hib grimaced.

" Next time will you pleassse ussse some ssaftey gear? Thisss could have been much worssse." Sthilg replied as his hands slowly moved to repar the damage. " Isss your sssght getting better?" he calmly asked.

Devin blinked slowly as she tried to focus, the blackness that had filled her field of view from her left eye was noticable in vanishing, she blinked a few times more and it was nearly to her more usual view, "It's clearing up, you still look slightly fuzzy but compared to when Lieutenant S'hib brought me in, it is a huge difference." She wasn't certain if he could get her vision as it had been before the accident but she would take whatever care he could help with.

"Despite the advances in technology... somethings still require time to heal, besides... you're in very good hands, I'm sure the Doctor will have you back on duty in no time." S'hib said, his words sincere but firm.

"Commander, notify me once Devin has been cleared back for duty... I need to go write a report..." S'hib sighed before nodding to the two and leaving.

fin for now...
