Prologue
Present Day - USS Borodino was in Drydock at Starbase One. Commander Pyotr Zhukov, the First Officer was in the hangar deck with his Chief of Security Lt. Franklin Hastings and his Chief Science Officer Lt. Vladimir Schwartz. They were examining what they had recover from two separate missions.
One was a drug called chronexaline, a drug which can protect one from tachyon radiation and the other were three shuttlecrafts engineered for time travel thanks to Klingon technology.
“Commander Runyon of the Department of Temporal Investigations will be here soon with his crew,” Commander Zhukov says candidly. “I met the El Aurian at the Academy. He was one of my Professors. He is a by the book officer, so do not get any ideas.”
Hastings was glad none of those guys were Betazoid. He was thinking back when his father was killed on 2364. He was only four at the time. The ship he was on had an accident in the warp core which killed six engineers including his father. He often fantasized about what would have happened if the USS Izar was warned.
All of a sudden, there was a rainbow myriad of lights indicating one person was beaming in. Commander Zhukov stood up as the other two officers followed suit. Zhukov seeing who it was spoke first. “Commander Runyon. Great to see you again.”
Runyon who was all business answered. “Seems we can take this off of your hands now.”
“Almost,” Hastings answered.
Runyon sighed. “Very well. Where is the chronexaline?”
“We have it in my office,” Zhukov answered. “Schwartz, take him to it. Hastings and I will stay here.”
“Yes sir,” Schwartz said.
As the two left, Hastings kept thinking if he should do what he was planning, “Commander. Have you seen where I put my Quantum Tricorder?”
“No but I will help you look,” Zhukov says.
Five minutes later, Commander Runyon and Lt. Vladimir Schwartz arrived in Commander Zhukov’s office. Schwartz knew the code to Zhukov’s safe. He removes it from the safe and gently places it on the table. “Here you go Commander.”
Runyon opens it and most to his chagrin, two containers were gone. “What happened to ....”
All of a sudden a red alert came over to the speakers that one of the shuttlecrafts have left with the other one following him. Runyon’s communication badge chirped.
“Commander. Not much time to talk but Hastings had two vials of that drug. He has taken one of the shuttlecrafts. I managed to grab one before he karate chopped my neck,” Zhukov says, “I have a feeling where he is going.”
Both shuttlecrafts time jumped at the same nano second.
Before Runyon could say a word, there was a time shift. He was still in Zhukov’s office but now Zhukov and Schwartz were with him. A few minutes went by as Zhukov and Schwartz were both looking at him.
Runyon smiles. “Gentlemen. There has been a time shift. In the original time line, a Lieutenant Franklin Hastings used one of those shuttlecrafts. Commander Zhukov, you went back in time to catch him. You finally did and killed him. Unfortunately you died a few years later.”
“How do you know this?” Zhukov asks.
“Because you told me years ago,” Runyon replied. “I have been waiting for this day for a long time. Schwartz, you will need to go back at the exact date and time I am going to give you. You need to kill Hastings before he contacts anyone.”
“So he messed up the timeline?” Schwartz asked.
“Yes he did,” Runyon answers. “He saved his father’s ship only to have it years later assimilated by the Borg at the Battle of Wolf 359.”
“Ouch,” Zhukov says, “So if Schwartz is successful and the timeline is restored, I will be dead.”
Runyon paused for a moment. “Two can fly in a shuttle. You pilot it and you have Schwartz kill him. As soon as you do, you two come back immediately.”
“Affirmative,” Zhukov replies.
“Remember if this mission goes south,” Runyon says, “Destroy the shuttles.”
“Indeed,” Schwartz answered.
Ten minutes later, the shuttlecraft takes off to the date December 2, 2364. Thirty minutes later Hastings Shuttiecraft appears. Unfortunately Hastings spots the other Shuttiecraft. Facing a no win scenario, Schwartz teleports Zhukov off the Shuttiecraft. His next maneuver was to go kamikaze on the other Shuttiecraft thus preserving the timeline.
Zhukov facing a dilemma, he reports to the Department of Temporal Investigations. They locate the other Zhukov and they placed both of them into cryogenics.
Epilogue
Aboard the USS Elysium in the universe that is about to get erase, Commander Victor “Vick” Barclay de Tolly was on board with his seven year old daughter Lara. She was staying in the guest quarters while her father was in the quarters of Captain Mira King.
“Mira,” Vick says smiling, “Ship I am on is going on a five year mission. It was a pleasure to see you before Lara and I left.”
Mira who was the sister of Vick’s late wife Tonya stroked his hair exhales. “Starfleet has a way of doing that. You take care of yourself and my niece.”
“I shall,” Vick responds kissing her slowly. “I need to go get something. I have a special surprise for you.”
“Oh I like surprises,” she said blissfully.
Vick who was shirtless but still kept his communication bag in his pants pocket went to the inn table in the other room. He picks up a jewelry box which had his late wife’s engagement ring that he kept for a long time.
All of sudden Vick felt weird not realizing there was a time shift. He walks back into the bedroom when all of a sudden he was stunned causing his body to fall on the bed of Captain Phoenix Lalor.
Who had been fast asleep, while the ship was docked at DS16. The person landing on her bed had her jolting awake and screaming "SECURITY!" At the top her lungs even as she yanked a phaser from under the second pillow on the bed. Captain Phoenix Lalor was not normally one who slept with weapons but the previous few weeks had given her more than
enough reason. Being kidnapped from your safe bed did that to a person.
Security were not far away and the doors to the Captain's cabin opened and a group of 15 officers swept into the cabin. As the cabin was two levels, several stayed on the lower level and the rest swept up to the upper level where the bedchambers were.
Phoenix scrambled from her bed and stood backed up against a wall, phaser in hand pointed at the unmoving man on the bed. In the back of her mind she was glad she was sleeping with clothes on these days.
The door to her bedchamber opened and three security officers appeared and stared at the scene. "Captain?"
"I am ok. I do not know who that is!" Phoenix said.
"Ok.." They moved swiftly to check on the man. He was just unconscious. "We will take him to medical under guard" The lead officer said. "And we will notify Commander Holmes"
"Do that" came the captain's reply.
With not so gentle movements, they tagged the man and beamed out for medical.
As they did so, Avalon appeared and informed Phoenix "Captain, sensors have notified us that a young child appeared in one of the VIP Cabins."
"Child?"
"Yes. A child, female, human around the age of 7-8."
Phoenix sighed. "JUST ONCE" she yelled.
"Captain?" The AI asked
"just once Avalon, i would like a quiet time. Get an ensign in that cabin, one from Ops, to be there when the child wakes up. I am sure it has something to do with the visitor. And at 7h, inform Commanders Taylor, Holmes, Sthlig and Lt Korath to meet me in Medical with our new guest."
"Yes Captain." the AI vanished.
Phoenix sighed again and sat down on her bed. A glance at the Chrono had her wincing. She would not sleep again this night.
Victor slowly wakes up in medical. Seeing several in there, he asks "Where is Captain Mira King and my daughter Lara? She is Mira's niece."
