Mission: Season 4: Episode 3: Guided by Starlight
Location: Starbase 13 - Promenade
Timeline: MD1
509 words - 1 OF Standard Post Measure

The day had been a whirlwind for Kedar but now he had some time for rest and to explore the station. He'd left the promenade where he'd met the new Ensign Luen.

He headed into the station and took a good look around, there were stores, places to eat and people milling about everywhere. He saw a Bajoran family, some Andorians, a Trill, but no Caitians. It was true, his race was exotic and rare, even as a member of the federation, but he kinda liked feeling exotic. He remembered the first time he'd gotten to Starfleet Academy and his room mate was obsessed with (in a totally platonic way) stroking his fur.

One store caught his eye, a jewellers on the East of the station. He decided to walk over and take a look at the offerings. The entrance was simply open like most of the concessions here and he stepped in to take a look around. A Bajoran woman smiled to him. "Is there anything you're looking for particularly, Cadet?" she asked, noting his uniform.

Kedar smiled back. "I'm about to board my first ship and from what I hear, missions sometimes can be long and difficult affairs, I'm thinking I may meet someone special at some point and my mother always told me that a gift of Jewellery should never be replicated" he said with a blush, remembering his mother.

"Ah, a wise woman she was. Well, we have all kinds of lovely items that could make a great gift for any future lady or gentleman in your life. Do you have a preference for colour?" she asked, slowly walking to the collections.

He appraised the glass cabinets and looked up at her. "Well, my eyes are orange, so maybe something like that?" he suggested. The woman smiled. "Wow, with a romantic idea like that, I'm just sad it's not for me!" she said with a chuckle before leading the Caitian to a cabinet. "Here" she said.

Kedar looked down and there were a number of rings and necklaces with orange stones and detailing. He took a good look before selecting two necklaces. One, a pendant with a burning orange jewel and the other a more chain-like affair with small silver and orange stones embedded into it.

A few minutes of transactioning later and the Caitian had his purchases in a bag. "Thankyou so much, that was really helpful" he said with a nod, leaving the shop with a smile on his face.

He spent another hour browsing the station before he decided it was time to head to his new life. He wasn't just a cadet anymore, he was in Senior Grade and he was spending it on a Starship! It was time to grow up now, he was no longer a Kit. He was a man and he had dreams to fulfil. Today was just the start of his Starfleet career. Who knows where he'd be in ten years. Will it be on the Elysium still, or a starbase? The future was yet unwritten.
