It was late and Phoenix was feeling very exhausted. Not really surprising, with the fact that she was pregnant with twins and it was hard to sleep. So she sat doing paperwork. And as she did so, part of her remember the time when she had first arrived on the Elysium, and a lieutenant had ignored a direct order from the Admiral, the idiot had refused to shut down all power and get to his station during a red alert. She had lost her crap at him, to be honest, when she herself had been a young hot headed Lieutenant. And then she had, with extreme relish transferred the Jackass.

Transferring an officer with a father who had a lot of clout was difficult in the extreme. Thing was, Phoenix didn’t care about such things. She had no qualms about moving people who disobeyed orders from her department, no matter who daddy was. She herself knew about Nepotism and she didn’t have the patience for such matters.
Phoenix scrolled through a list of horrible postings until she found one she wanted. Perfect. Mr My-Daddy-won’t-let-you would have a perfectly fun time on the snow-capped fields of Rura Penthe. There was a joint Klingon/Federation outpost there on the ruins of the old prison. A new one having been built a few kilometres away. And she knew that the cold and the Klingons would drive Miles Carter nuts.
And serve him right thinking that he could blatantly disobey an order from the Admiral and his senior officer. A few years there would straighten him out or kill him. Phoenix had no time for such idiots. Orders were orders and it was not like the orders she had given told him to walk into a fire pit or into a Borg cube for crying out loud. Checking on civilians was simple but very important and it would have released Security for wider duties in patrols. And not to mention it would not hurt her team to have a good relationship with the civilians on the ship. Someone had to. With a couple of taps, she reassigned Carter to the outpost. And sent the orders to the Brig. He was to be on the first shuttle out. She knew the rest would understand, from this, that she took no crap.
She had better things to do than to babysit some prince-poo with no brains. Heaven knew she had done that for 16 years for her brother. And her department staff would do their jobs or find somewhere else to be. She was not going to have it said her department was lax. Standing, She left her office and headed back to the bridge.
When she entered the bridge, she moved to stand beside Ops again. S’arlek looked up at her. “Scare them did you?” The Vulcan asked softly.
“Who? Me? Scare them? Threw Carter in the brig. And have transferred him to Rura Penthe.”
“That will do it” The Vulcan turned back to his console. “Do you really have every conversation recorded.”
“Yes. Too many fake complaints over the years.” She shrugged. “I hopefully will have made an impression on them to do their jobs without complaint or without ignoring orders. And not to follow some pampered Prince.”
“I did warn you about Carter, never thought though that he would take it that far.”
“Power corrupts” Phoenix said softly and looked over the console. “As we have gone to Yellow Alert, Contact the other bridge Officers and let them know I’ll take over for the next shift. Just in case.”
S’arlek nodded, sent off the communication and then they swapped out. S’arlek went to his office while Phoenix got to work.

A pity she mused as filed a crew report, S'arlek had turned out to be a traitor...And she had trusted him. She knew better now. Trust was harder to gain from her. Life taught harsh lessons.
