The year was 2389. Lt. Junior Grade Victor Barclay de Tolly was aboard the USS Aventine serving as an Engineer. An anomaly had happened which cause time to be shifted. When it was shifted back, only the Assistant Chief Science Officer Lt. Cmdr. Katherine Montoya and Victor knew what had transpired. Victor because of his temporal immunity and Katherine because of the anomaly.
Katherine was a very attractive lady with a full body of hair, hour glass figure with eyes that could cut you like a sharp blade. Her lips were full and her natural complexion had a natural pink blush to them. She was puzzled why Victor knew all that had transpired. Katherine there was more to his answer of it had to do something to the anomaly. So she decided to ask him on a date as she was always bold to do. Victor was kind of hesitant because recently he had become a widower. So after taking no for answer, she decided when they had shore-leave, she would make it a dinner date on Typhon Station.
Victor showed up to the restaurant in uniform. He saw Captain McKenzie Calhoun with his wife Admiral Elizabeth Shelby sitting at a table with Katherine.
Katherine did the proper introduction, "Admiral Elizabeth Shelby and Captain Mackenzie Calhoun, this is Lt. Junior Grade Victor Barclay de Tolly."
Victor who had met the couple several times growing up responded, "Yes, we have met several times over the years. Admiral. Captain. It is nice to see you again."
"Likewise," Mackenzie says as he stood up. "Please have a seat."
Elizabeth added, "Good to see you again. My condolences on the lost of your wife. How is your daughter doing?"
"She is with my late wife's parents at the moment," Victor says as he sat down mirroring Mackenzie's move.
Katherine gave Victor a sweet smile but she knew it was lost because Victor still have not accepted the lost of his wife. She was hoping for romance but for now, she knew she had to settle for friendship. "So you all know each other. Victor here is making a name for himself on the ship. Too bad it will be awhile before he makes Assistant Chief. Our Chief and Assistant Chief Engineer like the Aventine too much."
"Patience is a virtue," Elizabeth retorted. "Opportunity will come up one day. Victor your mother was never either but she was happy just to serve. What about you?"
"Admiral," Victor says calmly, "My mother felt content but my ambition is to be a Captain one day. Mother had to raise me without a father. So her priorities are different. I do have a child but my in-laws suggested I leave my daughter with them until she is old enough to travel."
"Wise choice," Elizabeth replied. "Your mother told me your father was from the future and he is no longer with us."
"You two must have been close because normally do not tell others," Victor says as a waiter brings him a glass of water.
The waiter paused the conversation to take the order. After the order was taken, Katherine now understood why Victor was unaffected by the anomaly. A thought occurred to her at that moment. "Victor, children of time travelers sometime developed an immunity to Quantum events. What happen recently, has it happen before?"
"A few times," Victor exhaled. "An Officer with the Department of Temporal Affairs suggested I should not discuss this with others."
"Understood," Mackenzie says as he theorized, "This means one day time line would be reset back maybe and you alone will remember everything."
"Well my sister, daughter and I," Victor answers.
All three at the table understood the ramifications of the remark. "Do you know the date he came from?" Mackenzie asked.
"Only my mother knows the exact date," Victor answers.
The evening went on as that was the only information they were able they were able to get out of Victor. Katherine and Victor only stayed as friends. Katherine did manage to get the date from Victor's mother a year later at a social gathering on the Enterprise. She told Mackenzie what the ballpark of what the date is.
In 2392, Victor was transferred over to the Excalibur. Katherine rose up in rank to the rank of Captain and was given command of the USS Malta. When time came where she reached of the timeline might shift, an opportunity came where the ship went back in time to prevent the time from changing. The process only takes about fifteen minutes. Instead of having her ship return to the day they left, she had the ship returned to the next year, just to be on the safe side.
Katherine felt she could fly underneath the radar but the Department of Temporal Investigations was able to find her ship right away due to the El Aurian officer Commander Runyon in the timeline which was erased wondered why did the USS Malta did not returned from the past. The Department had the ship USS Izar under the command of Captain Mira King patrol the area periodically in case they ever showed up.
The universe now had two USS Maltas and two Katherines where the other Katherine was just a second officer on the other Malta.
The Department of Temporal Affairs put Captain Katherine Montoya on trial. She had hired a great lawyer. The Department was trying to give her a severe penalty but instead, her USS Malta was renamed the USS Hernandez and it was assigned to the Department.
