Escape to Yesterday

Posted on Thu Nov 15th, 2018 @ 2:05am by Captain Gary Taylor

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Gary'a Quarters
Timeline: Current
552 words - 1.1 OF Standard Post Measure

(OOC: After Reunion)

Gary stood in his quarters, he had just left Lia. they were silent and dark. There was no joy, warmth or happiness coming from them. A better word would have been tomb. He sighed and shook his head, his quarters hadn't always been like this. Once, not so long ago they had been a haven of happiness and laughter. However that changed when Catlin died, the music and laughter had died with her. They say you never forget your first love and that's true. He could not and would not forget Catlin and the times they shared.

"I miss you Catlin, not a day doesn't go by that I don't." He said quietly as he walked into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. He picked up a picture of Catlin and himself smiling their arms around each other. *Happy Times* He thought. He fell back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. He felt like he was just going through the motions, marking time and he knew it had to change and that was the rub. He didn't know how to change it.

He stood up, he remembered when Catlin had first discovered his secret of singing, it had been an old rock and roll song and he had changed some of the words to fit her. He could still see the bright, delighted smile she wore when she heard it. A small smile crossed his face, "Computer, play just the music for Julie, Julie Do Ya Love Me? Moments later the music filled his quarters. "Catlin, sweetheart , this is for you. Never forget I love you." Then he began to sing.

Bein' alone at night makes me sad, girl
Yeah, it brings me down all right
Tossin' and turnin' and freezin' and burnin'
And cryin' all through the night
Whoa-oh
Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya love me?
Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya care?
Catlin, Catlin, are ya thinkin' of me?
Catlin, Catlin, will ya still be there?
We had so much fun together
I was sure that you were mine
But leavin' you, baby, is drivin' me crazy
It's got me wonderin' all the time
Whoa-oh
Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya love me?
Ah, Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya care?
Catlin, Catlin, are ya thinkin' of me?
Catlin, Catlin, will ya still be there?
Honey, you cried the day I left you
Even though we knew I couldn't stay
But baby, remember, I'll be back September
But till then I'll write you every day
Whoa-oh
Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya love me?
Ah, Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya care?
Come on, Catlin, Catlin, are ya thinkin' of me?
Catlin, Catlin, will ya still be there?
Oh-oh
Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya love me?
Ah, Catlin, Catlin, Catlin, do ya care?
Catlin, Catlin, are ya thinkin' of me?
Catlin,Catlin, will ya still be there?

As he finished he remembered her reaction, She leapt from the couch and threw her arms around him and her answer was exquiste in it's simplicty. She kissed him deeply and then looking deep into his eyes she had replied with a emphatic "YES!" Then they had waltzed around their
qaurters, arms wrapped around each other and lost in each other's embrace. Oh, for the good times of yesteryear.

Commander Taylor longs for the past, but will it be at the expense of the future? He takes you back to happier days, but nostalgia is never what it seems. This is a very good post, and the writer can tell the reader what's important. Well done.
