Having already been to see Naxea, Leilani didn’t want to be troubling her whilst she was recovering, remembering what she’d said about talking to Man’darr she made her way to find and talk to him.
Standing behind the desk, grumbling at a PaDD he held in his hand, Man'darr tossed it down onto the desk. The sooner the Colonel could get back to duty the happier he would be. It also meant he would be able to spend more time with Vaii.
Appearing in the doorway Leilani cleared her throat “Excuse me Sir” she stood to attention. “May I speak with you please?”
Man'darr turned at the voice and grinned. "Of course, Sergeant. At ease and enter. What can I do for you?" Man'darr remained standing as he hated the seat in the XO's Office.
“Thank you Sir,” Leilani smiled as she walked inside. “I’m Leilani Charles the new Combat Medic” she offered a polite smile. “This is going to sound ridiculous given I’ve just got here but... I’m pregnant Sir, but it won’t affect my duties for a while.” She paused. “I’m only a matter of a few hours in but Doctor Sthilg tells me that I won’t be able to carry my child past the first month. As it stands I’ll need a surrogate, or the baby will go into an artificial womb. Given my position regulations require that I report being pregnant, hence why I’m here.”
"Pregnant already?" he asked. 'Damn this woman works fast,' he thought. "What is the issue with your pregnancy?"
Leilani offered an optimistic smile. “I’m hoping to undergo a medical procedure that will allow me to carry my baby for the final trimester, in which case it will impact my duties at that point.”
"So, you are arriving to the Sixty-Second Detachment, pregnant and there by leaving you unable to perform your duties until the child is born? Because I am not sending a pregnant medic into a dangerous situation." Things in the detachment were not going well at the moment with it's CO down and now it's newest combat medic was pregnant.
“As ridiculous as it sounds I’ll only be pregnant for four weeks Sir” Leilani sighed. “After that I’ll be fit for duty for a further five months, I don’t intend to leave the you short handed Sir!”
"Well, let us hope you're not needed in those four weeks. This ship tends to run into trouble alot, Sergeant. I've read your service record and it is impressive. I hope you continue to be impressive while attached to the Sixty-Second Detachment. Do you have any questions?"
“Not really Sir, I’ve already spoken to Colonel Azhul but I didn’t know I was pregnant at the time. If I’m needed I’ll be there Sir, I don’t expect or want any preferential treatment. If I’m not there to save lives who will be?”
"Perhaps not, but you're getting it. While I admire your dedication to duty, you will not be permitted into any situation that endangers your unborn child. It's the Corps' Law," Man'darr explained, uncrossing his arms. "Come and walk with me Sergeant, I'll give you a tour, starting with the Detachment Medical Station."
“Of course Sir” Leilani nodded following on behind Man’darr.
After making a few turns, Man'darr came to the Medical station, entering the small one biobed room. "This is the medical station. It carries all the supplies and equipment that you will need in your duties."
“Looks good” Leilani walked around taking in her surroundings. “It seems odd to me that Starfleet equips their main Sickbay with loads of beds, and yet here we end up with one small room and a single bed. Saying that I’m not a surgeon so surgery cases would go straight to main Sickbay anyway.”
"Like I said, it is equipped everything you need as a medic," he stated with a shrug. "Anything more and we send the injured to Sickbay. This office is mostly for supply storage and healing Marines injured in training incidents."
‘Of course Sir” Leilani smiled and nodded. “I’ll make sure we’re all stocked up and anything that needs replenishing is sorted out,”
"Good. Follow me, " Man'darr replied simply before heading out of the medical station. "Have you stopped by your quarters yet?"
“I did before I met my husband, I’m now sharing his quarters Sir” Leilani smiled.
"And just how did you acquire a husband so fast, Sergeant?" Man'darr turned, looking down at the woman as he walked.
Leilani shrugged her shoulders. “To be honest Sir, I have no idea! It seems fate has intervened in finding me the man of my dreams!” She smiled as she thought of George. “We have a connection I can’t put into words.”
He let out a long sigh. 'And I thought only PFCs and Lance Corporals made the mistake of marrying the first person they come across,' he thought to himself. "And just who is this, as humans put it, Prince Charming?"
“It’s 1st Lieutenant George Charles Sir, he’s one of the Elysium’s fighter pilots.”
"I know who he is, Sergeant," he replied gruffly. 'The colonel is going to lose it when she finds out,' he thought as he entered the Assembly Area. The large open area had several cargo crates stacked near the bulkhead while First Platoon was currently doing platoon PT for the day. "This is the Assembly Area where the detachment assembles for PT, training, and before a deployment."
Leilani nodded. “I’m impressed just how much space the marine detachment has on this ship a lot of starships don’t have a marine contingent, and those that do generally have a small allotted area.”
"One of the bonuses of being assigned to an Elysium Class Vessel--we get an entire deck to ourselves with everything needed to self sustain us from Fleet portion of the vessel from our own industrial replicators to gymnasium. It also cuts down on incidents between Fleet and Marine personnel. After losing half of the detachment in an incident regarding the mirror universe, Colonel Azhul saw to it that Marine Country could be sealed off from the rest of the ship as a stand alone fortress and fall back area within the ship with it's own backup life support and power generators. Do you have any more questions?"
“No Sir, none at all” Leilani smiled warmly. “Thank you for the informative tour.”
"You are welcome, Sergeant. Report for duty tomorrow at 0700 Hours. You are dismissed."
