Location: Estelle's Quarters
922 words - 1.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Liorga, being told she had a couple hours before they needed to muster for departure, had decided that she wanted, no, needed to see Estelle. Not wanting to go empty handed, she had made breakfast for them both, sausage and cheese omelettes, and had brought her favorite blend of coffee along, knowing Estelle loved the beverage she called ‘liquid awake.’ She rang the chime and waited, hoping she’d find Estelle in a good mood, or at least hungry; the omelettes weighed a couple pounds each it seemed.

At first there was no response at all. It took several seconds for a very sleepy, “Yes?!” from inside. The lights were still dim as the doors parted and Estelle stood in the doorway between the living room and the bedroom, wrapped in a bathrobe and leaning against the frame, one eye closed, the other squinting against the bright light from the corridor.

“Good morning, beautiful.” Liorga smiled, stepping in and kissing Estelle softly, “Breakfast is served.” She laid out the spread on a nearby table, “Got omelettes, home fries, toast, three or four different jams…”

Estelle took in the scent, as the lights were thankfully still low. The illumination from the replicator terminal and her desk console were sufficient to let her navigate the room. “I smell coffee”, she remarked. “You spoil me, Liorga.” She put her arm around the Deltan woman’s waist. “I like it.”

“Can’t have you going around half awake, now can we?” Liorga replied, pulling a chair out for Estelle, “Please, dig in. Hope you enjoy it.”

“Computer, lights, slowly”, Estelle ordered, opening her eyes fully and grabbing the mug of coffee. That was the first thing she needed. “Ah, I can feel the energy of life returning to my limbs.”

“My favorite dark roast.” Liorga said, “Also got some sausages for the omelettes from Gallia, a Scottish blend made from lamb.”

“So she did get you to try haggis?” Estelle asked. “It is one of the high points of Terran cuisine.” Estelle knew many people didn’t like it, but she wasn’t one of those. “Have you been to her cabin? I finished the crib for Tayalas, who seems to not altogether dislike it.”

“She loves it, actually.” Liorga smiled, she’d just seen Tayalas and Gallia the night before, when the baby had slept so peacefully in the crib and the outfits provided by her by the doting doc, “And she looks super cute in her new outfits, by the way.”

Estelle smiled softly. “Good. They deserve something good coming their way for a change.” Like she had told Anje the evening before, she was amazed Gallia was able to keep things together as much as she did. “And one kindness is repaid with another, I see.” She took another bite of the sausage.

“It’s delicious.” Liorga said, having just taken a huge bite herself, “I mean, I hate to toot my own horn, but… toot toot.”

Laughing, Estelle replied, “Always better to have someone else do it for you. After breakfast, though, I promise.”

“Now that bodes well.” Liorga smirked, “Very well indeed.”

“I’m not too shabby as a tutor, even if I do say so myself”, Estelle added. “I’m okay with Tudors, even.”

“Good to know I’m in for the royal treatment.” Liorga winked naughtily.

Estelle took Liorga’s hand across the table. “With a tongue as sharp as mine? You bet.”

“Well, we’ll just have to put that to the test, won’t we?” Liorga said, leaning in to kiss the doctor deeply.

“I can prove my right to kingship, if you want.” She stood and took the three steps into her kitchen. She produced from a cupboard a small pan with a sword handle. “This if for when I want to fry an egg. It’s Eggs-calibur.”

“Not eggs-actly what I had in mind.” Liorga joked, “Don’t go bacon my heart, huh?”

Estelle giggled. “A dirty mind is a joy forever, and the one place I never want to see cleaned.” She sat back down. She certainly didn’t want to let all that good food go to waste, despite the other ideas coursing through her head. Starting for beta shift had its advantages early in the mornings.

“So, what do you say we eat this meal and then see where the day takes us?” Liorga offered, they only had a few hours, but it could feel like a whole day if they did it right.

“Much better prospects than the NSFW refresher course I need to take later today”, Estelle agreed.

“NSFW refresher course?” Liorga raised an eyebrow, “What not safe for work stuff are you doing? And why do you need a refresher? I figure you’re pretty well versed in such things, definitely not out of practice.”

“Non-Surgical Field Work”, Estelle explained. “It’s for the disaster relief. I’m expecting field hospital work, which I haven’t done in a long while, especially in a civilian environment. I figured I’d freshen up on general procedures.”

“Not a bad idea.” Liorga nodded, she’d considered teaching a field engineering course for the enlisted crew, “I’m sure you’ll be fine wherever you work.”

Estelle finished her meal and took Liorga’s hand. “I’ll certainly be motivated to work quickly. Now, let me show you something?” She pointed towards the doorway towards her other room, still dark.

Liorga quickly choked down her last bit of omelette, “Lead the way.”
