Kara awoke from a pretty good night’s sleep cuddled up next to Malakai, married life was good and she was enjoying finally being at Makakai’s side like she imagined she always would be. A few moments later she had to make a quick dive for the bathroom to pay homage to the porcelain, her stomach was churning and she felt completely nauseous. She just hoped she didn’t wake Malakai.
Unfortunately Malakai stirred and rolled over, his arm reaching. searching out for Kara. At not finding her his eyes snapped open and he sat up. "Kara?" He called out to her. "Kara?"
Appearing at the bathroom door Kara offered a smile. “I’m right here...” At that point she had to quickly dash back inside, the sound of her being ill resounded from the bathroom, there wasn’t much hope of keeping it quiet.
Malakai threw the sheets back and got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom. He turned his back to give Kara some privacy. "When did this start? You being sick?" He asked.
Kara sat on the floor feeling truly off colour. “I’ve been feeling queasy on and off for a few days. This is the first time I’ve actually been like this though.”
Malakai sat down across from her, "You think it's a stomach bug? Or maybe something you ate that didn't agree with you." He suggested hopefully.
“Maybe...” Kara nodded. “But my cycle is all off, I’m late... very late!”
"Umm. Do you think you might, you know just possibly be pregnant?" The word squeaked out of his mouth as he said it.
“Don’t sound so... horrified!” Kara sat back feeling a little better now. “It’s possible, I’ve been avoiding running a test but I guess...” She motioned to the door, the tricorder is in my medical bag.”
"I am not horrified Kara. Uncertain, apprehensive, nervous but not horrified." Malakai replied even as he got up and fished the tricorder out of Kara's medical bag before returning to her. "Here, you go." He said handing the tricorder to her.
Kara took a deep breath before nodding, tapping the tricorder she ran a scan before turning the tricorder for Malakai to see. “Looks like we’re going to be parents, I’m pregnant! Five weeks looking at this.”
Malakai sat next to Kara and silently absorbed the news, then he threw his arms around her and kissed her. "Parents! That's great! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Never mind I don't want to know. Come on,ets get you back into bed so you can rest."
Kara’s face was a picture as she looked at her husband, she was shocked that Malakai was so happy. “I thought you’d be annoyed.” She got to her feet and slowly walked back into the bedroom. “You know when this happened, that night on Risa. We did get pretty carried away!” She smiled as she remembered it.
"Annoyed? Why would I be annoyed? I think this is wonderful! You will be such a great mom." He stopped talking as he remembered the night Kara was referring to. Then he smiled, "Oh yeah! That was some night and we sure did get carried away."
Kara grinned. “I think we used every inch of floor, wall, sofa, and bed space that evening!” She slid back into bed. “Would you mind getting me a ginger tea please? It’s recommended for morning sickness.”
"Sure thing!" He leaned forward and kissed her, "Be right back. "As he dashed out of the room to get her tea.
Lying staring at the ceiling Kara wondered about Matt, should she tell him about her pregnancy? Given what had happened to his wife and son she didn’t want him to be forever worrying about her.
Moments later Malakai was back with her glass of ginger tea. "Here you go sweetheart." He said as he handed her the tea. Can I get you anything else?"
Kara shook her head. “Just your company” She took the tea and gently sipped it hoping her stomach would accept it without further trips to the bathroom. “Should I tell Matt? I know he’ll go into full over protective mode if I do.”
Malakai didn't rush an answer. He thought before replying. he didn't want problems with Mattias but neither did he want the man acting as Kara's protector, that was his job. Finally he spoke, coming up with what he thought was a reasonable solution. "Yes, he's your brother and deserves to know but not now. You aren't showing yet so you/we have time. Not to mention I don't need him to be shepherding you all over the place for nine months."
Kara grinned, “More like eight, I’m already just over a month. Okay we’ll keep it quiet for now, but I will tell Lily she needs to know because of what she assigns us.
"Good. Glad that is settled. Yes by all means tell Lily. She needs to know. Don't want to blindside her." Malakai answered with a smile.
Kara nodded. “I promise from now on there’ll be no more risk taking.” She paused to drink some more tea. “
Malakai nodded, "That's good enough for me Kara." As he sat on the bed with his wife and just enjoyed the simple act of talking with her.
Kara grinned. “You know I was going to talk to you about having a family, but I wasn’t going to throw it at you this soon in our marriage. I was actually willing to wait. Seems fate had other ideas!”
"Well I think that talk is moot now." Malakai replied with a grin. "This will be good. We're both young so we can enjoy our children and do things with them rather than just watching them. We can have an active part in their lives."
Kara grinned. “Wait you said children? You want more than one?” She smiled the biggest smile yet. “I think I’d like that.”
He nodded happily. "I did and I do want us to have more than one. Not a litter but two, three would be nice."
Kara nodded. “That sounds wonderful. You know me and kids!” She grinned.
Malakai smiled, "Yes, I certainly do sweetheart. I thought you might be receptive to that idea."
“Looks like I’m receptive full stop!” Kara grinned then drank some more of her ginger tea.
"Yes, I'd say you certainly are. Um, how do you think Mattias is going to react when you tell him?" Malakai asked.
“To be honest I think he’s going to be angry with me for not telling him sooner!” Kara sighed. “It’s just... after what happened to him, I don’t want him worrying about me.”
"He'll just have accept it Kara. It's my responsibility to look after you not his. The sooner he realizes that the better it will be for everyone." Malakai retorted.
“He will just give him time” Kara offered a smile. “He’s looked out for, and protected me my whole life. He’ll need time to adjust.”
Malakai had no desire to upset Kara, so he simply nodded and replied "Okay." Then added, "You think you could eat something light? Like toast and some scrambled eggs?"
Kara nodded. “That sounds wonderful, you are so attentive I feel so special.” She grinned.
"You are special Kara. Never forget that and I don't want anything to happen to you or our baby." Malakai told her as he leaned forward and kissed her softly.
Kara returned her husband’s kiss, her fingers gently brushed his cheek as she leant back to look in his eyes. “I know you don’t, I promise you there won’t be any unnecessary risks. I’m a mother now, I have our baby to protect.”
"Yes you are and you will be a fantastic one." Malakai said softly as Kara touched his cheek. "I'll do everything I can to help you and the baby during your pregnancy." he promised her.
“I know you will” She smiled warmly. “Right now I’m looking forward to that toast and scrambled egg.”
"Right!" Malakai replied with a grin as he rose and kissed Kara again. "I'll be right back with your breakfast. You want any jam or jelly on your toast?" He asked as he headed for the door.
“Oh no, thank you” Kara smiled. “I’m not sure how much my stomach will take.”
"Oh yeah." Malakai replied, "Okay be right back with your breakfast. Don't go anywhere." With that he disappeared from view to prepare Kara's breakfast.
