After a while under the tree, they slowly made their way back to their cabin. Samantha kept close to Garr as they walked.
"We need to do this more often Sam. Not just come to the arboretum but spend time together." Garrett told her.
"You just got promoted to an important position. Its going to be hard." She reminded him.
"Everything worthwhile is hard Sam. We'll find a way." He assured her.
When they entered their cabin and the door closed behind them, Samantha paused "What will you do when Lalor comes back?"
"Go back to being Commodore Mountbatten's aide I suppose Sam. Why?" Garret inquired.
"Why can't she give you, your own Command?" Samantha asked.
"I honestly don't know Sam. Perhaps she's using this to see if I'm ready for Command." Garrett proposed.
"Maybe it is the stepping stone you need."
"I agree Sam and I don't need to screw this up."
"Carrington will screw up. Not you." Sam said as they moved towards the kitchen,
"Love your confidence Sam."
"If she is anything like her Mirror... " Samantha shrugged.
"Sam. you knew Carrington's mirror?" Garrett asked unable to keep the surprise out of his voice.
"Captain Yasmine Carrington- Carlaw. Kept her 'husband' on a very tight lease, literally. He is kept naked and chained to her command chair. She captains or captained, could be past tense now, the ISS Reliant. And She has no patience for incompetence. Agony booths are not used on her ship. Whips and beatings and if it continues, you are airlocked."
Garrett shook his head at the news about Captain Carrington's mirror. "Sounds like she expects discipline just like here." He observed.
Before Sam could answer, Garrett spoke. "Wait, I want you to hear something. It says it better than I ever could. Computer play Home by Phillip Phillips." An instant later the first upbeats notes filled the cabin.
Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home.
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home.
As the music wound down, Garrett moved to his soulmate, "Your not alone Sam, your never alone." He whispered.
"I know." She whispered back.
He didn't reply. He didn't need words, not now, not with Sam. He just wrapped his arms around her and hugged her.
She leaned into his arms and closed her eyes. "Should we skip dinner?"
Garrett leaned back slightly to look at her, " We can at least postpone it if you like." He pointed out.
"hmm not like Gavin will be home any time soon." She muttered. "Just really not that hungry"
Garrett nodded, "What would you like to do Sam? This is your evening."
"Shall we chill on the couch?"
"I think that is a splendid idea Sam. A wonderful idea." Garrett replied with a smile.
Taking his hand, entwining their fingers she moved to the couch to sit.
He followed her to the couch, Sam was still the prettiest woman he had ever seen. It wasn't just her physical beauty which was apparent but her inner beauty as well. Her caring and compassion for others. Not to mention her common sense and intelligence. She was the complete package.
Sitting down, she waited for him to join her.
"Do you want anything Sam? Before I come join you." Garrett asked.
'Whatever you want to get is fine." she replied.
Garrett sighed softly but he poured two glasses of red wine and brought them over to the couch and handed one to Sam. "Here you go Sam, I hope you like it." He said as he sat down next to her.
"Thank you" she sipped.
"You are welcome Sam." Garrett replied as he sat down next to her and looped an arm around her.
She silently leaned into his side and let herself drift.
For his part, Garrett just held Sam and let her sleep. He was grateful for her company and support. He had been lost without her. He hoped she knew she was safe and no harm would befall her.
