Counseling Appointment

Shanyrria had checked off her Medical exam and now headed to counselling. She stopped at the intake desk and gave her name then sat down to await being called in.

Alicia was in her office merely catching up on reports, she wasn’t really supposed to be working as yet between her surgery and maternity leave, but she had some spare time while N’Vea was sleeping. Stepping out of the room she saw someone waiting to be seen, picking up information from the desk she offered a smile. “Ensign Kelmys I’m Alicia Kelea-Salik, Chief Counsellor if you’d like to come with me it’ll save you a longer wait.”

Shanyrria looked up and nodded "Oh That would be fine thank you Ma'am"

Walking into the office Alicia motioned to the replicator. “If you’d like anything feel free, and please make yourself at home.” She took a seat pulling to the door to an adjoining empty office where N’Vea was sleeping.

Shan took a seat but bypassed the replicator, she was not thirsty. "Thank you for seeing me, I was told to report to counseling for onboarding."

“Of course” Alicia nodded and picked up a PADD upon which to make notes. “So how are you settling in?”

"Well, its only day two here. I have met my Department chief and the Chief Medical officer. It seems to be going ok"

Alicia nodded. “That’s good, so what made you interested in joining Starfleet?”

"A whim. My people hold a lottery, only 3 of us are selected each year, to go to the academy. I put my name down as a kind of may as well. And got selected." Shanyrria explained.

Alicia nodded giving Shanyrria a curious look. “So are you enjoying being part of Starfleet? Has your whim proven of interest?”

"I am in the Science Department, I am an Alien Anthropologist/Archaeologist. As for enjoying starfleet, that is a two edged sword. My Race is a Vulcan off shoot and most people expect us to either be Vulcan like or Romulan Like. And we are neither."

Alicia nodded. “My husband is a Vulcan, if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that not everything with a Vulcan is as it outwardly appears.” She smiled warmly. I have learned never to compare people.”

Shan nodded "Most Vulcans I know see my people as children requiring guidance." She said calmly. "In the Academy it was worse than on a ship."

“I’m sorry about that” Alicia shook her head. “There’s no need for that kind of behaviour. Did you have many friends?”

Shan shook her head. "No not in the fleet, not any more." She replied without any sort of emotion. She was content.

“You seem quite content with that fact?” Alicia looked curiously at Shan. “I take it that it doesn’t bother you?”

“Well here aboard the Elysium we are one big family, we’ve all been through so much together that we’ve become pretty tight knit.” Alicia offered a smile. “If you do have any problems both I, and the rest of the counselling staff are here to be of help.”

Shan gave a wary nod. "I will keep that in mind" She said.

“That’s all I ask” Alicia smiled. “I believe you’ll have another member in the archaeology department, our Combat Medic & counsellor Leilani Charles is also an archaeologist and anthropologist.”

Shanyrria tilted her head "I Have not met her yet, the department is rather large."

Alicia nodded. “It’s a big ship. So how do you feel about here?”

"Its bigger than my last posting, and the science labs are better equipped and I hear the Chief is hands on which is good. My last chief was lazy."

Alicia smiled. “Well you’re honest, that’s a good thing. You’ll find everyone here is expected to pull their weight, and do their job. Now, do you have any questions you’d like to ask?”

Shan considered it and shook her head. "No, just that everyone here so far has been very nice."

“That’s good to hear” Alicia smiled warmly. “If you’re happy then I’m happy to clear you for duty, unless there’s anything you’d like to add?”

Shan shook her head "No Nothing to add Commander. Thank you."

“My pleasure” Alicia smiled. “Any problems, worries or concerns feel free to drop by, or call me.”

Shanyrria stood and nodded "Thank you Commander"
