Gary walked towards Phoenix's Ready Room. She needed to know about the situation regarding Lt. Hoffman and the fact that in two days they would have a Klingon Bird of Prey sitting off their port bow.
The conversation with Kara's parents, her biological one was still ringing in his ears as was their insistence that Kara be told of
her heritage once they arrived, less their house be dishonored.
Stopping outside her door, he brushed at the wrinkles in his tunic and pressed the chime to allow him entrance. Next up, he had
to bring her up to speed on the situation and what he knew of it.
"Come!" Phoenix called out from inside. She was very tense and her voice showed it.
Gary heard Phoenix call out for him to enter but he also heard an undercurrent of tenseness? Frustration? He wasn't sure other than something was bothering her. He came through the doors and walked to her desk, coming to a stop just in front of it. "You alright?" He asked his eyes searching her face for a clue to what might be bothering her.
She sighed. "Yes, sorry, just the situation on the ground, the loss of officers and now we have relief ships coming in from my home world. Its going to be fun."
Nodding, Gary slid into the chair in front of her desk. "We'll get our people back. The relief/rescue operations are well underway. We'll keep a close eye on the ships from your home world." He added trying to lessen the tenseness she was dealing with, then moved on to the reason he was there. "I don't mean to add to your headache but in just over two days a Klingon Bird of Prey is going to show up here."
"Well I thought they were sending Cargo ships to assist?" Phoenix was curious.
He nodded, "As far as I know they still are. This is something different. Something ….personal. It has to do with Lieutenant Hoffman." Gary knew he was being cryptic and he hated it but he wanted Phoenix to know what was going on.
"Go on." Phoenix said curiously. "Don't hedge Gary."
"The IKS Ka'rota is inbound to our location as we speak. It seems that Lt. Hoffman is actually part Klingon. Her birth mother Kuri, is her name by the way contacted me. She is Chief Engineer of the Ka'rota. Told me how Kara was given to the Hoffman's as a baby and is not aware of the um deception." He paused and continued. "The reason for the sudden meeting is. The High Council was unaware of Kara's being part Klingon until an enemy of the house of T'lanak told the High Council of Kara's birth and the Council is investigating the accusation. If it's true the house of T'lanak will fall into dishonor. However if Kuri and her husband tell Kara, the house 's honor will stay intact."
"Hold on. The Lieutenant's genetics are Human. Her file clearly states Human. How is she part klingon. There are no Klingon Genes in her features at all." Phoenix was very confused.
"Very true but not correct. "Kuri and her husband used very specific methods to hide genetic blockers, blood type and other Klingon features. It was done when she was obviously very young."
Phoenix frowned. "I want the CMO to check Kara out fully. Full Work up. I want her to have a full physical I do not want this to be some sort of con job."
"Sure thing. However if nothing has been found as of now, I doubt the CMO will find anything. It sounds like they were very thorough in 'hiding' Kara's heritage. I'm going to be speaking with her. She was in Sickbay. Injured herself on the holodeck. Going to inform her of what I know. Don't want to spring this on her when a Bird of Prey shows up. Speaking of which, Kuri said they should be the only Klingon ship to near us. If any others show up they are dangerous."
"understood" Phoenix made note of it. "Anything else?"
"Just that if any other Klingon ships do show up we're to stay out of it if shooting breaks out. Kuri said, no Klingon ship would dare fire on us." Garry added.
"Oh sure." Phoenix was very sarcastic. "Like that hasn't happened before. I
Gary grinned at her, "In my own humble opinion, I think that would be a very wise and prudent move."
Phoenix nodded. "Lets hope we can deal with one crisis at a time though."
"Agreed. I prefer handling any crisis, one at a time. Makes them simpler to handle." Gary quipped.
