After leaving the lounge, Napoleon started introducing his new friend to the Engineering crew who were still on board.

“Now if this gets overwhelming,” Lt. Napoleon Bond said, “Let me know. First this is Ensign Tar Zell. He is one of our Ingavi officers.”

Tar, the gorilla looking officer saluted. “It is nice to meet you Ensign. I am running diagnostics on the warp core with Lt. JG. Joral Bin.”

Joral, the joined Trill officer replied, “That would be me. Welcome aboard. Lieutenant, what is your friend’s name.”

“My apologies,” Napoleon answered. “This is Ensign Mrera Sr’au. She is a Communications Officer.”

“Good to meet you, gentlemen!” Sr’au humbly intoned. “There is no need to salute. You may call me Mrera. What are working on?”

“Running routine tests,” Joral answered. “We do this every time there is downtime. Kind of like changing the oil, whatever that means. Another ship I was on, my Chief use to say that a lot.”

“It’s alwayss good to do that before we ssail off,” Mrera jested. “It lookss like the sship is in good handss.”

“Indeed it is,” Napoleon said, “Next stop will be the Engineering Lab. We are working on many projects in there. I have developed a 3D model that can be displayed from your communication badge. Starfleet has rejected it but our Engineers, Medical Staff and other Departments can use them with discretion. My job is to make other people’s job easier.”

Mrera’s ears perked up at his words. “I’d be interessted in sseeing your dessign, Lieutenant.” She followed him into the lab.

They walked over to the lab where Lieutenant Junior Grade Paulie O’Rourke, Lieutenant Alice Jordan and Lt. JG. Marcellus Sattine an Dasa. They were all working on a set of portable clothing replicators.

“Ah our new Communications Officer,” Paulie says smiling, “We are working on the clothing replicators here. Would you like a new dress or maybe a spare uniform?”

Ensign Sr’au grinned. She had always inhibited or trapped by clothing. When she was relaxing in her room at the Academy, Mrera mostly just wore an oversized pullover shirt. She didn’t care much for dresses. Her clothing always needed to make allowance for her tail.

“Purrhapss we could combine the two,” the ensign suggested. “I do need a dress uniform.”

Alice entered all the parameters on a console of what she wanted. She made her three dress uniforms of three different styles. One was a shoulderless dress uniform with dress bottom with a slit for her to show her knees, one was a one piece uniform with pants where her tail would fit comfortably out and last but not least, it was one similar to the first one but it was a full length dress with halter top but no slit.

“Are these what you had in mind?” Alice asked.

Mrera’s green eyes widened and brightened for a moment. All three were appealing. She looked to Napoleon. He had been so kind to her and his opinion was quickly becoming important to her.

She purred in a pleasant way, then peered at Bond. “Which do you think would look best on me?”

“By far,” Napoleon replied, “It is the long dress with the slit in it so to expose your leg. Plus it shows off your fluffy tail.” He catches his breath for a moment. “Which one do you prefer or like the most?”

“Are you saying,” Mrera acted shy to tease Napoleon, “you wissh to ssee my leg?”

She waited to see Bond’s facial reaction before she grinned. “Exssellent! I’ll take that one,” she declared pointing to the one he suggested.

Napoleon blushed a bit as he was unable to talk because of the proverbial, cat got his tongue.

“Actually,” Alice said smiling poking Napoleon, “You can take all three. I can beam all three of them to your quarters.”

“Really?” Mrera asked, her eyes widening. “Thank you, so much!”

“Do you want to continue the tour of Engineering?” Napoleon asked.

Ensign Sr’au smiled. She was enjoying the tour. More importantly, she was enjoying the company. “Lead on, kind ssir!” she insisted. “Besidess, you still need to show me your model communicator.”

“Oh my model communicator is state of the art,”Napoleon said as he escorted the young eager ensign to another lab. He walked over to the safe he had in there. Opening it he says, “I am going to show you something that needs to be kept under wraps.” He pulls out his communicator that he had designed himself. “Reason why I keep it in a safe, it was designed from a device of someone who had came from the future.”

Mrera reached out her left paw, then paused. “May I?” she asked in awe.

“Of course,” Napoleon replied.

Ensign Sr’au was amazed at the technology. She had many questions to ask. It was hard to see if a person’s tone on a modern communicator matched their body language and facial expression. However, if the comm badge could produce an image the person speaking, it may be possible.

“Sso, thiss projectss the holographic image?” she asked, pointing to a small lens. Iss it ssmall or life ssize? Doess the hologram project just an image of the persson or them actually sspeaking to you?” The questions came rapid-fire, showing her enthusiasm.

“I never thought about projecting the person talking back,”Napoleon said scratching his head a bit. “It projects layouts of compounds, Starbases, Starships, engineering drawings and other non organic with the exception of a person’s anatomy. Hmmmmm. I kept looking at this project from an engineer’s point of view. I need to look at it from the end user’s point of view. Thank you for your suggestion.”

"Lieutenant, thiss iss amazing!. Modelss are important for people to see," Mrera explained, "but for a communicationss officer, it would be nice to ssee the body language and facial expressionss of the persson communicating. It could reveal a hidden agenda they may have. Purrhaps we can tweak it."

“Sure look at it some more,” Napoleon replied. “My Chief said for me to continue developing it. If we step on any temporal toes, we probably get a visit from the Captain of the USS Relativity.”

Ensign Sr'au glanced from the item to look again at Lieutenant JG Bond's handsome face. "We can look into it together," she mused, thinking she wouldn't mind spending some of her spare time with the man. Her tail flitted at the possibility of working alongside him.

"Sso, thiss iss from the future?" she suddenly thought aloud. Mrera knew of the possibility of time travel. She knew there were travelers; keepers of the timeline. "That'ss why Sstarfleet won't approve of it. What iss the future like."

“I have been cross referencing other projects similar to this, so the future is now as what I saw the future has, it is happening now,” Napoleon smiled, “Only thing is with your help, we are going to have the coolest communication badges.”
