Lt. Junior Grade Tarr Zell, the Ingavi Engineer who look like a big ape was continuing with repairs. It had become a long tedious process. He was hoping to be with his wife and children but knowing they were okay, it gave him peace of mind as it reminded him why he was putting in over time. Louis Bordeaux was standing on his shoulders as they were calibrating the warp core.

An announcement came over the communication channel if there was any available pilots.

Louis looked down asking Tarr, “Don’t you have flying experience?”

Tarr grumbled a bit under his breath. “Yes but I am wanted here.”

“I can cover for you Bro,” Louis said as he finished his task.

“Victor has to clear it,” Tarr said as helped Louis down.

About ten minutes later, Victor called a meeting with his Engineers. “Crew, they are looking for pilots. How many of you have actual piloting experience?”

Tarr raised his hand first. “I piloted shuttles before joining the Academy.”

“Great,” Victor said as he looked around, “I will put you on the list.”

Lorelei raised her hand next, “I have done some but I am not really that great.”

Victor took a deep breath. “You can be Tarr’s backup in case something goes south.”

Louis who was Lorelei’s common law husband raised his hand next. “I repair shuttles.”

Victor scratched his head for a moment. “Tarr and Lorelei repairs them as well and you need to stay here to pick up the slack by Tarr not being here. I understand one hundred percent how you want to protect your wife but I need you here. Paddy was transferred because we were getting another Assistant Chief Engineer, so until we get one, Louis you are my Acting Assistant Chief.”

“Understood,” Louis said as he had mixed emotions. He wanted to be the full time Assistant Chief of Engineering but on the other hand, he never liked the part ordering other Engineers what to do.

Louis looked at Lorelei as both gave the other a reassuring look.

Victor smiled. “Now Louis brought up an important part. The ones here who can repair shuttles need to go with the shuttles. Ensign Johann Jakob Schmidt, you will lead the shuttle repairmen on this mission.”

“Das gut Herr Chief, “ Johann answered.

“So we have Tarr Zell, Lorelei Lee, Johann Schmidt and several petty officers I am recommending to the Captain and our Executive Officer of the Engineers we can spare,” Victor said to them all. “Any questions?” No one answered. “Then you are all dismissed.”

After they were all dismissed, Tonya stayed behind. “Victor. You have experience, why don’t you volunteer?”

“Because the ship needs me,” Victor said as gave her a nod.

“But Louis can fill in for you as well as I,” Tonya answered giving him a look.

“Very well,” Victor said, “I will include that in my response.”

“Commodore and Captain,” Victor said as he pressed his communication badge, “Engineers Tarr Zell and Lorelei Lee I can spare if you still need pilots. If you need shuttle engineers, Ensign Johann Schmidt can lead that crew. I have experience but unless you object, I will stay with the ship.”

After Victor finished, he went back to work.
