Luxa was grateful at being able to return to the ship. Marine Country was in better shape than she had last seen it, but it still had a long way to go. The lights were operating at low power and non-essential systems were offline to help provide power to other areas that needed it more until main power could be restored in those areas.
"Why are we using our batteries to power other areas?" came the voice she recognized as belonging to PFC Jenkins.
"Shut it, Jenkins and just do your job and get to cleaning up the damaged areas of Marine Country, or would you rather be back on the surface?" Luxa snapped.
"Aye Gunny. I'll work on it," Jenkins replied as he moved off to one of the secondary areas along with several other low ranking enlisted Marines.
Luxa shook her head as she watched Jenkins get back to work.
"They grew stir crazy down there," the deep voice of Moses sounded behind Luxa. "Once we are flying normally again, we should restart full PT. I'm seeing a few too many flabby bodies." He reached out and playfully pinched Luxa's right butt cheek, once he was sure no-one was around.
Luxa instantly slapped his hands away playfully. "There's nothing flabby about my ass, you chunky butt," Luxa replied, grinning as she turned to face Moses.
He was grinning just as much ad Luxa turned to face him. "Oh, I know. I just like the feel of it." He gave her a playful wink then moved his eyes to the scene around them. "I wish the rest of the ship looked half as good as Marine Country. The Colonel did a great job on her redesign of the place."
"Yeah. From what I heard, she had to pull alot of strings to get it done while the ship was being overhauled after the Mirror Universe Incident. I think she took what happened personally. But it all worked out, even supplying power to needed parts of the ship until the Warp Core could be restarted," she stated. In all honestly, she was worried about getting back home. Even with the Warp Core online, power appeared to be at minimal levels due to the damage.
Moses nodded again. "Marines are here to protect the crew, it's only fitting that our home protected the survivors and helped keep the ship alive." As he finished speaking, he caught sight of the MXO working to remove some debris that was blocking the entryway to the enlisted barracks. "Now that man," he said with a smile, "is going to go fast in the Corps. He is like the Colonel in a lot of ways. One of them vying, I'd follow him through hell and back if he asked me to." He smiled a bit brighter as he continued. "Did you hear? He and Lieutenant Whavi had their baby, a beautiful little girl!" He was very happy for his old friend, glad that the universe was finally allowing him something to truly enjoy.
"No, I hadn't heard but I'm happy for him," she replied smiling. Both the Colonel and the XO now had children. "To be honest, I didn't think I would ever see the Colonel as a mother, though she does a great job of being one. Better than I ever would be," she chuckled.
Moses gave her a soft look. "Oh, I'm sure you'd be a great mama, Lu. If you had any sons, they would be the picture of respect towards women. And if you had any girls, well..." he chuckled here. "I have no doubt that they would be just as wonderful and full of fire as you are."
"Now I know you're full of it," Gami laughed. "But yes, my mother was always so respectful and did her best to bring me up the same..." her smile faded. "She sacrificed everything to see her family safe..."
Seeing the sadness fill Gami's face, Moses reached over and gently covered her free hand with one of his. "I'm sorry, Lu. I didn't know." He silently kicked himself for causing this woman any pain.
"It's fine," she replied. "I only have my brother left...and he's not able to function in society so he stays at a special retreat on Betazed that were designed for the victims of Dominion Experiments during the Occupation. Most times he doesn't even recognize me, so I just stay away. It seems best for him," she finished with a sigh. "Anyways, don't be sorry, you big teddy bear and no more bad topics," she smiled up at him.
As he was the oldest of five children, Moses understood the pain of seeing one of his siblings hurting. In a move of pure and honest affection and growing love, he said to her in reply, "That's it. I am going to hold you and never let go." He then did just that, sliding his chair closer to her, he gently wrapped his powerful left arm protectively around her shoulders and held her against his side.
Luxa let herself relax against Moses. "And I'm so going to ruin your reputation with the others by telling them what a big softie you are," she chuckled.
"You do that," he warned playfully as he nuzzled her ear, "and I won't show you how hard I can be."
"You dirty Marine," Luxa slapped his arm playfully, smiling, as she moved to give him a kiss.
Moses saw her movements, then beat her to the punch, pulling her to him, wrapping both of his powerful arms around her, and kissing her deeply as he stood and lifted her up off the deck.
Luxa chuckled. "Put me down, you overgrown Nubian Slug!"
After a few gloriously long beats, he finally broke the kiss long enough to say between gasps for breath, "Your cabin or mine?' There was an undeniable hunger to his voice. And a rather noticeable bulge in his pants.
"Let's go to mine," she replied, seductively, caressing his face.
Moses smiled hungrily. "Davisson," he called out to one of his Platoon sergeants. "Take over for a bit. Gunny Gami and I are going to go check a few other systems."
Sergeant Davidson nodded as she watched the two senior Platoon Sergeants head off, then grinned to herself when she saw where they ended up. 'Good,' she thought to herself. 'They both deserve some real happiness.' She then turned her attention back to the Marines of her Second Squad and the rest of the Platoon. First and Third had both lost their squad leaders during the crossing, and there hadn't been time to sit a think about who to move up.
