Mission: Season 6: Episode 3: Far From Home
Location: Brig
Timeline: MD 3 1800 hours
813 words - 1.6 OF Standard Post Measure

It had been several days since Lia had been confined to the brig. Gary was over being angry with Lia but he was still annoyed by her attitude. He checked on her well-being with the various brig officers who confirmed that Lia was a model prisoner. She gave them no trouble. She ate her meals when they came and generally sat on the bunk and stared at the ceiling.

He sighed quietly. He hated this! Hated being mad with her. Hated being at polar opposites and he definitely hated her attitude of feeling picked on. He looked at the PaDD in his hand. It contained a song that he hoped would show Lia that though he was upset, he did love her. He knew despite her bravado, this was a shock to her. To be place din the brig for two weeks. being reduced in rank to Lieutenant Commander as well as being removed as security chief.
He was no psychologist but he felt all of this combined with the stress of finding whoever attacked Ensign Derani, contributed to Lia's overly combative nature and attitude.

He made his way to the brig and stopped to chat with the officer on duty. "How is Commander Taylor today?"

"Fine sir. Quiet, no trouble. Lies on the bunk and stares at the ceiling. When we take her meals to her, she speaks to us. Nothing in particular, just general stuff sir."

"How's her attitude?"

"Good. She eats, make no move toward the front of her cell when we bring her meals or come back to get the trays."

Gary nodded. "Good, I have a PaDD I'd like to give her. It has a song on it."

The officer nodded, "Sure thing sir. I think she's asleep. Let me check the monitor." flicking a switch on the security camera. He looked in on Lia. "Yes sir, she's asleep."

Gary nodded, "Come with me. I'll place the PaDD on the bunk and you can raise the forcefield back up when I exit the cell."

The officer nodded and accompanied Gary to Lia's cell. She was asleep the the field was lowered and Gary silently placed the PaDd on the bunk beside her as he exited the cell and field was raised once again.

"Thank you Lieutenant." Gary said as he left the brig.

"You are welcome sir."

When Lia turns on the PaDD she will her Petula Clark's song My Love and Bette Midler singing The Rose.

My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world that can ever change my love
Something happened to my heart the day that I met you
Something that I never felt before
You are always on my mind no matter what I do
And everyday it seems that I want you more
My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world that can ever change my love
Once I thought that love was meant for anyone else but me
Once I thought you'd never come my way
Now it only goes to show how wrong we all can be
For now I have to tell you everyday
My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world that can ever change my love
My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world that can ever change my love.

When the song ended, The Rose started.

Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed
It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taking
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose
