Sand... the stuff was everywhere. Sticking to Eli's uniform, her sweat and blood alike.
It dug into her skin, clumping under her nails as she dragged herself under the rear of the Lagrange.
She could still hear the arrows falling, even as she rolled down the incline of the dune their ship had come to rest on. Was this really happening? she thought, huddling in the shade of the ruined Intrepid.
That was when something caught her attention, A crewman on her right, clambering over the dune just as an arrow struck, piercing him entirely before continuing to fly forward, wedging itself in the next dune over.
She gasped before throwing a hand over her mouth, sitting there shaking as she watched his lifeless body roll down the red sand.

Back in the jungle, a tall and well-built Sequus male watched with curiosity as his Priestess knelt next to one of the felled sky creatures.
"What are they?" He asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
She didn't answer immediately, instead taking the time to move the creature's head with morbid fascination. "I do not know S'fay..."
"Are they not the old ones? the ones that our ancestors fled from?" He asked as he tightened his grip around his ornate spear.
"No... the old ones didn't bleed," She replied while folding the thing's arms over its chest. "These do."

Eli didn't know what to do, she was terrified, still sitting there unable to look away from the man she just watched die.
So traumatised was she that she never noticed the sand flowing next to her as Samuels slid down the dune.
"Eli..." He said quietly, shuffling over beside her before putting a hand on her shoulder. "Eli we can't stay here."
She slowly turned to face him, blinking the shock away as she stared at Commander Samuels.
"Eli, come on... up you get." He added as more of the crew slid down behind the wreck of the Lagrange.
"Has anyone seen the Captain?" one of them called out.
Samuels grimaced as he got up, trying to shake the image of Ciobanu impaled on the front of his ship. "He didn't make it."
"Commander they're almost here," Lieutenant Richards called out as he peered over the dune, watching hundreds of aliens stampeding towards the Lagrange.
"We need to go." He added, rolling onto his back to survey the crew before him.
Was this it? He thought, eight survivors out of forty three?
"We can use the dunes for cover," Samuels said as he climbed the next dune. "Once we're over, keep low and head right."

Shi'tari watched as her warrior kin mounted the great smouldering beast, poking at its stone-like skin with their spears.
"Is it dead?" She asked with a disgruntled sneer, wanting nothing more than the glory of taking down such a giant creature.
"I do not know if it was ever alive to begin with." Replied one of the many naked warriors after moving aside a loose scale with her spear. "There is no flesh beneath it's hide."
"Are these not its children then?" Another said as she placed a hoof on the back of one of the Lagranges crew, allowing her enough leverage to pull out an arrow.
Shi'tari pondered for a moment, looking around the killing grounds before looking up at the sky. "I'm sure the Priestesses will have an answer." She said, watching what appeared to her as stars falling in the midday sky.
