Carol sat in the small office in the Brig area, now that Lia had been removed from Security by Reece she didn't feel as if things would go well for her. S'hib knew she and Lia had been close friends, and he didn't seem the forgive and forget type. Picking up her PaDD, she checked things off. 1) Check names, Rank, Section, and sentence to be served in the brig. 2) Check the names of those on Restriction Of Privilege's, always a few regulars on that list. 3) Ensure the CCTV from the cells worked fully and without problems.

Once everything in the office had been checked, Carol moved onto the prisoners. Any prisoners were checked to see that no unaurthorized articles had been received or acquired, it was amazing just how inventive people could be in getting hold of stuff they shouldn't have. If she didn't find at least one forbidden item, then she wasn't doing her job right.

Her mind went back to the investigation she had undertaken with Lia, Reece had seemed impressed by her actions. But now she wasn't so sure those actions would be looked on with favour, was she being paranoid? After what Lia had been through, Carol thought not. She had seen first hand the result of the negative comments and reactions Commander Taylor had been subject to, how slowly but surely they beat her down and pushed her over the edge.

With her now removed, Reece and S'hib could do as they pleased. Would she be their next target? Carol didn't think so, after all she was a brig Officer nothing important. Dolton wasn't even a commissioned Officer, but with the way this part of space was affecting people who could say? Carol now brought her thoughts back to the job in hand, moving through the cell area she checked her charges. Each of the eight cells were scanned, only four were being used. Dolton had ensured there was a gap of one cell between prisoners, that way they couldn't talk quietly among themselves. She also made sure no one prisoner was opposite another if possible, that also made talking and planning things difficult across the cell area.

As she ticked her checklist off, her mind again wandered back to Lia. She hadn't seen or heard the woman for day's now, scuttlebut had her confined to sickbay as a mental patient. Carol doubted that, but a possible breakdown could be the reason for not seeing her. Just what would happen to her if that was the case made Carol think, do Lieutenant Commanders lose their rank when a medical or mental condition hits them and they can't carry out their duties? Maybe Gary, Captain Taylor would come and tell her.

Returning to the small office, Dolton placed the PaDD down on the equally small desk. She turned to the replicator and ordered a coffee, a memory flashed by of doing this when Lia was confined in the brig. Carol had walked away leaving the forcefield down, Lia had just remained sat in her cell drinking her own coffee. That one action had been the start of Dolton's liking of the woman, Lia knew running was pointless so didn't bother. Her respect towards Carol herself, also made Carol like Lia even more. Some of the Officers seemed to think they were special, others were just grade one dicks.

Sitting down at the desk, Dolton sipped the coffee. This was it for the next eight hours, two hours on four hours off and this time she'd drawn the short straw. Oh well, at least the residents were quiet.
