Mal took Kara by the hand and led her to the holodeck. He was beaming at her and he hoped she liked what he had planned for them. Arriving at the holodeck, he spoke, "Computer run Malakai program Outdoor surprise." An instant later the computer replied with it even monotone. "You may enter when ready." As the pair entered the holodeck and the arch closed behind them. The stood and looked at the tall redwoods, a crystal blue lake in the distance and the sound of a waterfalls, not too far away. "Welcome to the outdoors Kara, specifically Washington state. We're going to camp and hike and do some fishing and whatever else we can think of."

Kara smiled as she looked around the setting, it was so beautiful. “This is amazing! You know how much I love doing this. Even more so now I’m almost fully fit. I need exercise and this certainly qualifies!”

Mal smiled, "I know Kara and you are doing fantastic but if at any point you get tired just stop. I don't want you overdoing it. I want you to have a good time and enjoy yourself."

“I will” Kara grinned. “I always enjoy myself when we’re together you know that. Besides I’m back at work now so I’ll be doing plenty of time on my feet.”

Mal nodded the last thing he wanted was Kara injuring herself when she was supposed to be relaxing. "The key Kara is not to overdo it. If you feel tired or your legs feel weak just stop and take a break."

Kara nodded. “I will, that’s a promise” She smiled warmly. “I don’t intend to end up a patient again anytime soon.”

"That's my girl." Mal was so proud of Kara and all the hard work she had put in to get to where she was now. She deserved something nice, and he planned to give it to her.

“Let’s go to the waterfall” Kara smiled. “I want to see it, and enjoy the surroundings.”

Mal smiled at Kara's reply and extended his hand to the love of his life. "Well, who am I to deny such a request? Let's go and see what there is to see."

Kara grinned as they ventured onwards, she loved the way Mal always thought of her in everything they did. “All those years we spent as on and off couple, I was starting to think we’d never get married. Mattias was always there doing the big brother thing, and I ignored his advice every time! To be honest I’m glad I did.”

Mal was silent as Kara spoke about their past dating history. he still felt terribly bad over it all. Kara bless her, had always remained true and faithful. He had as well, his problem had been commitment. When Kara stopped talking he turned to face her. "I'm glad you ignored his advice as well Kara. So very glad and thankful. I was a fool back then. I had the best thing in my life right in front of me and I couldn't see it." He shook his head from side to side, "I'm glad I finally woke up and realized what I had. I'm sorry Kara , sorry for all I put you through."

“You don’t have to apologise Imzadi” Kara paused walking to turn and look at him. “We both had our issues back then, I wasn’t ready for commitment then, I just never got to say it. Now we’re here and that’s all behind us. I used to wonder about my real family back then, I know who I truly am now. Admittedly my grandfather many generations removed is considered a criminal of sorts, but I know more about myself now than I ever did. It’s answered so many questions, and my El Aurian genes have helped speed up my healing too.”

Mal's hands went to Kara's trim waist as she spoke, when she had finished, he brought her close. "I'm glad you know about your grandfather Kara. It helps you in knowing about yourself and answering your questions. For me, I know all I ever need to know about you. I know you are a smart, caring and considerate friend, a doting and loving mother and....." He paused as he lowered his head to whisper in her ear, "A fantastic and loving wife who is always supportive of me, who stands with me in everything we do. "I love you so much Kara. Now and for all eternity."

Kara smiled the biggest smile yet. “I love you too, you’ve been my rock through all this, helping me with my recovery, and with us both being new parents as well. I’ve relied on you a lot lately and you haven’t let me down.”

Mal continued to hold her, "We aren't only husband and wife Kara, we're partners, that means we help and support each other." He looked deep into her eyes, "I hope I never let you down or disappoint you, Kara. I will always be here for you. Loving and supporting you in everything you do."

“I know that Imzadi, I’ve always known that” Kara smiled warmly. “I’ve...had nightmares on and off since I learned about being part El Aurian, knowing that I’ll outlive you, and everyone I know. It terrified me at first, but I’m slowly becoming accustomed to it. There’s little I can do to change it, so it’s a case of accepting it and enjoying what I have.”

Mal took her hand and led her over to a large fallen tree so they could sit. Once they were seated, he spoke still holding Kara's hand. "Kara, I don't think about it. I am here with you now and that is what is important to me. You, us the children all in the here and now. Every second is precious, and I want us to enjoy them all." He leaned forward and kissed her softly. "What can I do to help you with your nightmares darling?"

“You’re already doing it just by being here” Kara held onto Mal’s hand. “It’s my fears, I just need to learn to accept them for what they are and move on.”

Mal smiled and continued to hold Kara's hand. "I understand that Kara, but I want to help you. You shouldn't go through this alone. We're partners, always there for each other, to help anyway we can."

Kara nodded. “You are so wonderful, you know that?” She leant in for a gentle loving kiss. “I promise from now on I’ll talk more about how I feel.”

Mal returned Kara's kiss, with equal tenderness, feeling her soft lips on his. "Enough talk of how wonderful we both are. We're here to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. I suggest we do that starting now Mrs. Starr." Mal finished with a bright, full smile. "Now, what's your pleasure my lady?"

“We were going to see the waterfall, let’s do that and see what else there is too.” Kara grinned. This was an exciting adventure that she was going to take full advantage of.”

"We can certainly do that Kara." Mal replied with a bright, boyish smile. He took her hand in his as they headed for the waterfall and whatever came next.

~ A little while later ~

Sitting dabbling her feet in the crystal blue water Kara looked around. “You know what I’d like? A cabin in the woods, near a glen like this. It would be a dream.” She paused. “Computer add a log cabin in, or near the woods, completely furnished with a view of the sea in the distance.”

An instant later Kara's request was completed, and a log cabin could be seen not too far away. "Your log cabin Kara and it is perfect." Mal replied with a smile as he sat next to Kara his feet also in the crystal-clear water. "Computer, add a canoe and oar." He looked at Kara, "Figure we can tour the lake or just float idly whatever your pleasure is Kara."

“Let’s go and see inside the cabin!” Kara was eager as she started drying her feet on a nearby towel. “I can’t wait to see what it’s like.” Feet dried and her shoes back on Kara was up on her feet ready to go and look.

Mal rose fluidly to stand beside her. He took her hand in his, "Sounds like a good idea Kara." He answered as the pair walked toward the rustic cabin and to see the treasures it had inside.

Stepping up onto the cabin porch Kara motioned to a swing seat, before turning to the door. Opening it her expression was one of sheer joy and amazement at the sight inside. Wooden flooring, a roaring wood fire in the fireplace, fur rugs, and so much more. “Ohh Wow! It’s amazing!!”

Mal stood behind Kara and whistled in approval. "Now, this nice! No, it's more than nice. It is fantastic! That swing seat on the porch is a nice touch as well." He added. "Let's see what the rest of the cabin looks like, though judging by this the rest of the cabin is going to be just as stunning."

Kara nodded enthusiastically, if dreams could come true this would be her ideal home if they ever decided to leave Starfleet, or move to a colony instead of a ship. “I can’t wait to see the master bedroom.”

"I agree Kara. This is a fantastic house, and we could be quite comfortable here." He smiled as she suggested they look at the master bedroom. "Sounds good to me." He said with a grin as he took her hand, and they went to look at the master bedroom.
It certainly lived up to its name. There was a four poster, canopy bed in the center made of black walnut, with matching end tables and lamps. A ceiling fan. Off the bedroom was the master bath with a walk-in shower and across from it nestled in the opposite corner was a garden tub. "Oh wow!" Mal exclaimed at the majesty of the room. "We could be very happy here."

“This is my dream, my ideal home” Kara smiled as she looked around. “Whether we’d ever manage to own a home like this is another thing. There’s one plus point we can come here whenever we want thanks to the holodeck.”

Mal wrapped his arms around Kara and gently had then fall onto the bed where he peppered her mouth, neck, throat with kisses. "Good point Kara." He said as he stopped kissing her. "We need to remember this cabin and location for our next holodeck adventure. Don't you think sweetie?"

“Most definitely” Kara smiled and nodded. “Especially if we’re going to do this!” She grinned a wry grin.

Mal smiled back at her. "I think I can safely say and guarantee we will be doing this. You don't object do you Kara?" He teased as he kissed her again.

“Ohh no...no objections!” Kara grinned before returning his kisses. “That’s if you’ve got no objections of course?”

Mal grinned and shook his head. "No objections from me Kara. None at all." As he kissed her again and again. Light feathery kisses on Kara's lips, throat and neck.

Kara was happy to get completely lost in the moment with her beloved husband, this was a perfect way to forget about their current situation, lost so far from the Federation.

Mal continued to kiss his wonderful and beloved Kara. She was his world and made every day a joy to just be around and with her, "Kara," he whispered. "I love you for all eternity, thank you for being my wife and loving me." He kissed her deeply, inhaling her sweet scent as it drove him wild with passion. " Sweetheart, you are the best. Simply the best"

“It takes the best to know the best” Kara smiled as she ran her fingers up and down Mal’s back. “I’m never going anywhere, that’s a promise. I have all I need right here.”

Mal sighed happily as Kara ran her fingers up and down his back. "Afraid you are stuck with me as well Kara. We're a matched set, can't break us apart." As he kissed her again to show his commitment to her and their life together.
