Old:
Camryn joined the party and halted as Naxea shouted into a com. She looked around while holding onto her padd. At the moment, she hadn't picked up a rifle or a weapon yet. However, she had her side phaser on her hip just in case she needed it. Satisfied that the area seemed to be secured at the moment, she reviewed the stats. As the new assistant chief engineer, she monitored the activity on the Promenade. It was chaos with the hounds. Now everyone paused and licked their wounds. She looked up and noted one of the hounds. Scanning it, she detected some cybernetic and wondered if it would be useful for later.
New:
Stillness echoed in the air after the initial attack by the hounds. Security personell rushed while medical tended to the wounded. Several officers and civilians beamed away as Cam walked along the path. Tapping her LCARs PADD, she recorded and reviewed the damage. Damage reports poured in as the messages overwhelmed her a bit. Nearly exhausted, she compartmentalized the areas of damage from the vital ones to the non-essentials. Tapping her combadge, she spoke in thin air, "Avalon. Could you assist me with the damage analysis?"
The AI appeared. "Lieutenant. Nice to see you are in one piece. The damage is extensive." The AI's red haired head tilted. "Which deck would you like to commence with?"
Cam studied Avalon for a moment. They have worked together since she joined over a year ago, mostly to keep the Elysium up to date. Sometimes they chatted occasionally and discussed various subjects. She smiled, nodded while quickly covering her smile and replied, "Whichever sections are important to start repairs on. And the promenade. We need to get those pods cleared out and patch up the hull. I have a feeling this isn't the end of the attack, but a beginning of one."
This part of her being El Aurian allowed her to sense an unease in the air. Cam could feel this stark stillness and it made her uneasy as she stopped before one of the pods. Placing her hand on it, she could feel the cool metal.
The AI had followed her. "Forcefields will hold the breaches for now if we can push them from the hull. That said, they have jammed themselves into the hull so it will be hard and take them being towed out. Flight control has begun prepping shuttles with tow cables."
Cam nodded. It's a start. She added, "We could tag the pods and beam them out into space, unless that would be difficult to do." She began scanning the pod, gathering engineering data about the unique vessel.
Avalon listened and gave a short nod. "Transporter room 7 is the closest as it is on this deck. It is... functional." the pause meant something. "But it is a bit torn up."
Camryn nodded, "But we can repair it?" She adjusted her direction and headed toward the room to analyze the damage.
"Yes but initial estimates put it at 2 hours for complete repair." the AI replied. "Mainly cosmetic really."
Cam added, "Lets get started then. Order some parts." Taking out her repair kit, she scanned the broken transporter, moving aside the ruined salvage. Taking the diagnostic tool, she moved it across the panel as her padd gathered the information
Avalon considered the issue and sent a message to the industrial replicators, only one of which was active. "40 mins for parts."
Cam nodded. Not bad. Could be quicker for parts, but considering chaos that hit them hard from an unknown enemy, she replied, "Good. Hey, I wasn't in the briefing, so I'm wondering. Do we know what hit us? There was an attack and then these pods crashed through. These beasts came out."
"The Commodore will release the information. But they are a militaristic race who enjoy feasting on the defeated." The AI said calmly.
“Ah. Excellent,” Cam remarked, slightly disgusted. She quickly hid it, realizing that certain alien species require substances to survive. She quickly replied thinking logically, “Maybe there’s a way we could take advantage of that weakness. Anything to stop them from attacking, right?”
Avalon nodded. "Poison the well maybe?" the AI sent the idea to the Command team.
Truth be told, Cam needed small talk to make herself busy while waiting for the parts to arrive. She inquired, “Avalon. ETA on those parts?”
"25 minutes" came the reply.
Camryn shrugged, scanning the pad and the subroutines. She murmered, "I mean, if its just purely cosmetic, would we need parts? Maybe we just need to upgrade the conduit and have it beam parts of the pod out while securing the breaches."
Avalon considered. "A more viable idea if you wish to complete it quickly. Someone else can do the cosmetic."
Cam nodded, "We can do it. The pods can be tagged, right? For beaming. Or is something blocking the signal?"
"The signal should be fine." The AI replied. "But it will take a while to do it all."
Cam replied, "Lets do it then."
