Timeline: MD4
1881 words - 3.8 OF Standard Post Measure

The sun on the Lonian homeworld hung high overhead as Naxea walked along the beach, dressed in a one piece lavender swimsuit. She was alone though Gunnery Sergeant Gami said she would come down later in the day as she was spending time with Moses she needed some time away from the ship and frankly to herself to figure out her relationship with Taylor, S'hib, and her department.

The beach was beautiful as the waves gently crashed onto the shore. A dozen other people, mostly Lonians were spending time at the beach as well with children playing in the surf .

The kids in the water were throwing a ball around, and one of the older kids hit it a little harder than intended. It sailed over the other children's heads, and it plopped into the wet sand a couple metres away from Naxea. One of the children, who looked to be no older than 8 by Human standards, ran over but stopped short when he saw the alien approaching.

Naxea smiled at the boy before reaching down and tossing the ball gently back at him. "There you go," she said.

The boy caught the ball and gave her a smile. "Thanks, Miss!" He then ran back to the group with the ball.

Naxea watched the boy turn and run back to his friends. It reminded her of her time playing with her friends at the beach back on New France Colony.

Kevar watched the woman from the boardwalk as he adjusted his shirt. In reality, he was adjusting the wire woven into the fabric of his collar. They couldn't approach everyone the same way, after all; Lady Sama was very particular in her orders. It didn't take much effort to tune into the Niea Ground Control frequencies to monitor for transporter requests from a certain vessel. He picked up his sandals to go barefoot on the sand and began his intercept, looking at the waves and the boats in the distance on purpose.

Lights, camera...

He bumped into Naxea and stumbled, his feet kicking up a little sand. "Oh, gosh, I am so sorry!" Kevar said, holding out his hands in case she lost her balance. He gave a sheepish smile, "I guess I was a little distracted by how nice of a day it is."

"Yes, it is a nice day," Naxea replied, catching her balance. "Are you alright?"

"Aside from my dignity, I'm alright," the male Lonian chuckled. "I'm usually more attentive than that. I'm Kevar. Are you alright?"

Naxea noted the man's build and body language. He was either really fit civilian or he was military. She guessed the latter with the small noticeable signs that gave away military training. "Naxea. And yes, I'm alright, thank you."

"What a unique name," Kevar commented. He thought for a couple seconds before adding, "you don't look to be from this world, so you may not be aware that it's customary among our people to offer something as a token of apology. I'd like to get you something to make up for this incident. A drink, perhaps? Or a souvenir?"

She paused for a moment. She wasn't aware of any tradition that she knew of from Teevs and Intel reports but she could be wrong or this was a cheesy way of asking her out. She let out a sigh. He appeared harmless enough and she could use a drink with all the stress she was under lately. "Sure "

She didn’t seem fully convinced by the lie, but she did accept the offer. A win is a win. Kevar extended his hand toward the boardwalk. "I'm waiting for a college buddy," he began, hoping to strike up some conversation. "Teevs usually isn't late, though I hear he did just come back home. He's one of the few who likes to travel beyond our world."

"You know Teevs Dosivi?" she asked with a raise eyebrow as she walked with him

Kevar looked toward Naxea, brows raised in surprise. "We were roommates in college. Reliable guy, even if I got annoyed by his growing rock collection," he answered, chuckling a little by the end. "How do you know him?"

"He guided us through Galatonian Space and served in my department to help fight them off," she replied, finding it rather strange she would run into someone who knew Teevs out of everyone on the planet.

Still a bit surprised, Kevar offered a smile. "Small universe, I suppose. You fought the Galtonians? No offense, but I'm surprised you made it out of that fight. I've heard that if they're feeling nice, they'll eat you after they've killed you." He shuddered a little at the thought.

"They never met Starfleet before," she boasted, yet knowing how much those battles cost the crew. Even the wound from the Bard that she was hit with in the last battle throbbed in response to the fight.

"Starfleet, your species?" He asked as they stepped up onto the boardwalk.

The question made Naxea stifle a chuckle. "No. My species is Bajoran. Starfleet is the organization that I belong to. Starfleet Marines to be exact."

Kevar made a quiet 'ohhh' before he chuckled at his own blunder.

As they turned a corner, down the path were some guards talking to civilians. They passed a datapad over, the civilians looked at the information before shaking their head, then the datapad was passed back. The guards nodded and let them go, then flagged down another passerby.

If Kevar saw them, he didn't show it. Instead, he kept up the conversation with Naxea. "I can't say I've heard of your species before, but welcome to our planet nevertheless. I would highly recommend the glacier walk in Irela, it is stunning and well worth the queue."

"I doubt anyone here has heard of my species. We're...a long way from home. I may have to try that if I have the time," she replied. "So where is this place that we're going to?"

"Gashel's fruit bar. They make lovely fresh fruit drinks that are perfect for a day like today." He continued down the path, and out of the corner of his eye he watched the guards wrap up the conversation and the civilians walk away.

Sure enough, the guards spotted their next targets and waved down the pair. "Forgive the disruption," a male guard said, "can we ask you a couple questions for an investigation?"

Kevar slowed a little in his pace, raising a brow. "We're just passing through to Gashel's."

"It will only take a moment of your time," the guard insisted.

This was the part that required his role to be convincing. Kevar looked to Naxea, silently asking what she wanted to do. "I guess if it will only take a moment..." he shrugged.

"I doubt that I'll be able to help as I'm only visiting, but sure, what is it?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.

The guard handed showed them a datapad. "Do either of you happen to know this individual?" On it was an image of Teevs, his name in several alien languages beneath it.

Kevar's eyes widened. He made sure his expression conveyed a level of surprised confusion that recognised the presence of a rather bizarre coincidence. "That, uh, can't be right," he said, giving an unsettled little chuckle, though it died off pretty quickly when he caught the guard's expression.

Naxea was shocked at the image of Teevs on the data padd. "Dosivi? What has he done?"

"The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but he is suspected of committing an act of treason," the guard explained. "He has no prior criminal record, so we want to understand why he would commit such a serious offense."

"How can we help?" Kevar asked, looking at the image again.

"If it's not too much trouble, we'd like you to come to the precinct so we can ask some questions about him," was the reply. "It shouldn't take very long."

"I can answer your questions now though I don't know how I could help you as I don't even know the specifics of his charges. What did he do to be charged with treason?" Naxea asked.

The guard looked at the datapad, swiping to another screen. "He knowingly aided an enemy of the Sovereignty," he replied.

Kevar shook his head. "That doesn't sound like the Teevs I know. Surely there has been a mistake."

The male guard turned to Kevar. "He was also found in possession of illegal assets. I'm afraid that's all the information my partner and I were given."

"Illegal assets? And you don't know what these illegal assets were?" she asked, dumbfounded. She knew about the need to know, but looking for someone in possession of illegal assets and not knowing what those assets were was just plain ridiculous. Either the Lonians were very stupid or they were hiding something.

"My partner and I don't have that clearance, but it has been documented in the investigation," the guard replied. "We assure you that the threat has been mitigated. Any information either of you may have will be most helpful to us." There was a pause, then he shrugged, "on a personal note, I don't understand what could compel someone with no prior criminal record to commit such an offense. The investigation simply aims to answer that question."

"Well, that's hard for me to answer if I don't know what this illegal assets is supposed to be," Naxea replied. She was starting to get a bad feeling about this. Nothing was adding up.

"Ma'am, even if we did know, we don't usually disclose such things publicly," the guard said. "The last thing Lady Sama wants is unnecessary panic. You are welcome to come see the evidence at the precinct, and my colleagues there can provide more information so you can contribute."

Kevar watched the guard as he rubbed the back of his head, a silent coded gesture to get their act together. "Well, I'd certainly want to see this evidence," he mentioned, lowering his hand once he satisfied the itch on his neck. "But I just think you have the wrong guy."

Naxea sighed, looking at Kevar before looking back at the guard. "Fine. But I need to inform the Elysium first per protocol," she said, reaching into her concealed pocket at the waist of her swimsuit used to store small personal items to retrieve her communicator.

"We already got the approval from your vessel to conduct our investigation," a guard responded, watching the hand reach for the communicator.

"Well, I'm going to verify that," she said firmly.

Seeing that Naxea was starting to get sketched out, Kevar reached into his own swim trunk pockets for the personal transporter, the movement as if one were simply resting their hands in their pockets. These guards were idiots, and he'd be sure to talk to their supervisor later. For now, Naxea simply knew too much. He removed the personal transporter from his pocket, a small ball-shaped object, and he pressed it to Naxea's side.

Naxea felt the slap on her side and was surprised as she recognized that she was instantly caught in a transporter beam.
