Phoenix entered Medical where Mattias was recovering. She ignored the looks from Nurses who were about to run to tell the Chief medical officer that the Commodore was NOT taking it easy. She didn't care. She wanted to see her husband. So she walked into the room where he was resting and sat down on the chair beside the bed and took his hand and waited for him to wake up.
For a few moments, Mattias didnt seem to register his visitor. He had been out of it sine the surgeries needed to save his life and repair his abused body. He was still bandaged in places, and bruised slightly in others, but the ought thing was, Sthilg and the rest of Elysium's medical staff, had managed to put the Chief Diplomatic Protective Security Officer....and the Commodore's husband, back together again.
Finally, Mattias's fingers slowly curled around the soft, warm skin of his beautiful wife's hand. His breathing rate changed from the slow, steady rhythm of unconsciousness, and he started to return to the world.
Phee felt his hand move and lifted it to her lips, brushing her kiss across his hand gently. "I am here," She whispered. "I am here Matt. I am not going anywhere, My King."
A few beats later, Mattias's grip gently tightened around Phoenix's hand. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open, and he coughed slightly. Turning his head, his eyes landed on Phoenix, and he smiled weakly. "I must be in heaven, for I'm looking at an angel "
"You are not. You are alive and safe on the Elysium." Phoenix responded. "And I cannot say how happy I am that you are back on board." She lowered her head to his hand, resting her forehead on his knuckles.
This simple gesture caused his mind to go on alert, even in its weakened state. "What's wrong, Phee?" He asked softly, his mind starting to go to dark thoughts. "Are the kids okay?!"
"They are fine." Phoenix said slowly raising her head. "I missed you." She was hedging. She was not sure he should hear what happened, not in this state.
Mattias's expression softened when he heard their children were safe. He turned his hand over, and gently caressed the right side of her face. "My Queen." He suddenly remembered what had happened. "The Lonians!" He tried to sit up.
"Dealt with. Mostly. We have everyone back, Teevs, Kerillia and all the crew. Everyone is safe." Phoenix assured him, gently pushing him back to a prone position. "You are safe, everyone is safe." she repeated.
As finally relented and settled, Mattias caught a look in his wife's eyes. "What happened. Tell me, Phee."
She took a breath and began explaining. The panic she had felt, the anger, the desire to hurt the Lonians. Then nothing. A blank spot which she learned she had been so enraged that she had, had to be stunned by Commander Reece, then the medical diagnosis. The fact that she had been pregnant and their child was now in an EVO Womb. She explained it all.
Mattias's facial expressions changed as he listened. First pain, then anger, followed by shock then rage. Surprise turned to joy, then fear and worry. He reached out for her, pulling her close to him, as he tried to protect her, as he had done since they first met.
"Oh Phee! I'm so sorry! I...I tried to escape! The totally blind-sided me, all of us! They were small, but numerous, and they had those damn electro prods!" He kissed her gently, then paused, as he looked her in the eyes. "Our baby...?"
"Alive, growing. Nothing more than a blob of cells though." She whispered into his neck. "I had not had time to tell you before the away team.. I am sorry Matt."
Pulling away slightly, Mattias looked his wife in the eye, and said, "Don't you dare apologize for this, Phee! I am over the moon right now with this news!!" He leaned in and kissed her again, as tears of happiness started to run down his cheeks.
She gave a soft sound, half laugh and half sob, and brushed the tears from his cheek with her thumb. "You need to rest," she said softly, though she made absolutely no effort to move away from him. Instead, Phoenix carefully shifted closer, mindful of his injuries as she rested her forehead against his. "And before you argue with me, that is not a suggestion. I am still the Commodore." The faintest smile touched her lips. "And your wife, which means I outrank you twice where your health is concerned."
As she shifted closer, Mattias gently wrapped his arms around Phoenix as best he could. When she finished speaking, he gave her his best charming grin, which was not as brilliant as usual, given his current physical state, and replied softly, "Yes, My Queen. Thy wish, as always, is my command."
She rolled her eyes. "Then get well and come home. We miss you. The twins miss you. Tristi misses you. Miran has threatened to move back in until you are released."
He chuckled softly as he replied. "Hell, I've snuck into and out of tighter-controlled enemy installations, without being detected."
"Uh huh. Remind me how you got back to Elysium" she drawled with a smile.
"Well," he gave her that handsome, lop-sided grin that only she was given, as he replied. "There's a first time for everything. You should have seen the other guys." He chuckled softly, then cringed slightly, as a sharp pain, from his mending ribs suddenly lanced briefly through his side.
"I am sure, I had apparently some nasty plans for them as well." She drew back. "Ok you need to rest. I should get back to the children."
Love sparked again in his eyes, "How are they? I miss them terribly!"
"They are safe and well" She smiled. "And when the doctor lets you out you will see them."
Mattias closed his eyes, smiling with love on his face as he thought about his family. He then opened his eyes again and asked, "I know you've already said, but truthfully...how are you my love?"
Phoenix took a breath. "Getting better" was all she said. "I have booked a counselor appointment."
Nodding in understanding, Mattias took his wife's hands into his. "As you husband, and your elder," he gave her s playful grin, "I am requesting that you do everything you need to do to take care of yourself, My Queen." He brought her knuckles to his lips and gently kissed them, before lowering them back down. "You will be no good to anyone...not your crew, your ship, or your family...if you fall down from exhaustion." He gently squeezed her hands as he looked into her eyes with an expression that he was being very serious.
"I intend to" she said softly. She sat at his bedside for a while longer, they spoke in soft voices about the babe growing in an evo womb and when he would be ready to come home.
