MEDICAL DEPARTMENT BRIEFING

ZYPHERA PRIME SUMMIT MEDICAL OPERATIONS

Classification: Departmental
Distribution: Medical
Date: 11 August 2398

OVERVIEW

The summit will place Elysium personnel in sustained contact with several species for which Starfleet possesses limited medical information.

Medical should not assume apparent humanoid physiology indicates biochemical compatibility.

EXPECTED SPECIES

Rin'thar: Feline-reptilian physiology. Detailed medical exchange pending.

Varn: Avian-descended humanoid physiology with light but strong skeletal structures, elevated metabolic rates, feather-like cranial crests and natural bioluminescent markings. Extensive technological augmentation may make the distinction between biological and cybernetic systems difficult.

Ael'ven: Bioluminescent humanoids with demonstrated empathic/resonance effects.

Zypherans: Metallic-appearing skin and widespread use of personal shielding technology.

Medical information supplied by delegations should be independently reviewed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Medical should prepare for:

- allergic reactions,
- unknown pathogens,
- environmental incompatibility,
- unfamiliar pharmaceuticals,
- cybernetic injury,
- poisoning,
- trauma,
- diplomatic medical emergencies,
- mass-casualty incidents.

EREBUS MEDICAL QUESTIONS

Transit safety has NOT been established.

Medical input will be required concerning:

- radiation exposure,
- neurological effects,
- temporal effects,
- cellular damage,
- reproductive effects,
- cybernetic systems,
- implants,
- non-humanoid physiology,
- stasis requirements,
- post-transit quarantine.

No living subject should be exposed to an experimental aperture without appropriate review and authorisation.

RECENT CREW CONSIDERATIONS

Personnel are reminded that the crew has recently experienced combat, imprisonment, torture, bereavement and prolonged isolation from Federation support.

The summit does not erase those realities.

Medical and Counselling should coordinate where appropriate.

MEDICAL PRINCIPLE

A machine capable of surviving Erebus does not prove that a person can.
